Hi I've been enjoying an organ CD called "Tsar of Instruments." Chandos. Chan 10043. (Iain Quinn) The bass is simply incredible but Tracks 17 & 18 are exceptional. Shostakovitch's Music from "The Gadfly" track 17 "Credo" is insane. I shall have to try Speclab on it when I have time. My wife complained it was making her ears hurt in the downstairs bathroom. My drivers are regularly moving 3/4" during this piece and everything is rattling like the old array was still in place. Highly recommended for the superb music too.

I'll have to send you a link to the CD of the world's largest organ. It gives a demo of the 64' pipes. I'm not sure if a CD can handle 8Hz, but it would be fun to see/hear. Glad to see other organ music fans out there.

Thanks for the great link! Impressive scale! One rarely sees a 32' pipe set with a human figure for true scale. 7 manuals. Wow! You won't believe how well an IB plays the organ until you hear it. Nothing even comes close. Certainly not a 16-46 SVS or a pair of large DIY bandpass! It's never enough to to just reproduce a low frequency, however loudly. It must be done incredibly gently and with the greatest respect for the pure fundamental. Prepare to be utterly shocked if you know the sound of great organs! "Awesome" doesn't even start to describe the sound of an organ coming from an IB.

Thanks to a kind recommendation from an AVS member I have a new reference Extreme Organ Test CD! ;D Felix Hell: Organ Sensation. Reference Recordings RR-101CD Forget about all previous record(ed) bass levels. Many of the tracks on this CD make action movies seem tame. It's worth getting just for track 17 (Liszt) even if you're not an organ fan. I see about 3/4" total excursion towards the end of this track at quite modest listening levels. There are some surprises earlier on the CD too. I found the resonant frequency of my entire baffle wall with track 2. A gentle, dreamy piece by Guilmant. (Pastorale) Track 4: Rheinberger's "Abendfriede" is of a similar style and quality with very large rocks at hidden depths. Play this CD at your own peril! Approach with caution! Do not wind up the volume on the quiet bits! Don't run your subwoofer hot unless it can really take it! If you run speakers fullrange then handle the volume control very gently. BTW: It's a superb organ CD too for those who take their pipe organs seriously. Felix Hell has a website if you want to see him playing. His nimble footwork is remarkable to see for those amongst us who cannot pat our heads and rub our tummies at the same time. (or vice versa)
