unless there's a large group of people that built IB's and never said a word about them anywhere on the net.
There does exist a large group of professional Home Theatre installers that use many of the products discussed on these forum that never actually participate in the actual conversations. I am currently courting several around here that do private homes and also public places like schools/universities and houses of worship. I would also expect to see commercial theatres as a potential future home for IB sub systems.... Darrel

My local Kerasotes doesn't seem to be using a sub at all.
They have two brand new buildings each with a bunch of very small theaters (200" screens) and poor sound systems.
I saw "Cars" with my Godson and I couldn't believe that the bass was non-existant.
It seemed as though they were relying on full range speakers.
They could use an IB but I don't know where they would put the drivers. They use every bit of available space. Each of their rooms would probably need 12 - 16 of your 18" Drivers.

I wonder whether Thomas can confirm that many of the IBs he mentions were built with Stryke/Acoustic Elegance AE IB15s? John claimed to have sold some 400-500 drivers. If that's accurate, most went into alignments other than IB's, unless there's a large group of people that built IB's and never said a word about them anywhere on the net. You also can't pry used AE IB15's out of people's cold dead hands. I have seen 6-8 used for sale over the past year + and never in lots of 4. That would be 100+ IB's using these drivers with very few people wanting to upgrade. I think that I am going to start buying these things when I see a lot of two 8ohm drivers instead of waiting for 4. This way I can add until I get 8.

If you know of anyone who's done this, it would be great to just have them stop by to post their experiences and possibly some pics..

If it helps - I was hoping to get to some driver testing today but the list of things to accomplish looks to be trumping that hope. I should be "working from home" on Tuesday morning, however... I intend to start with one driver, open baffle - impedance sweep, nearfield measurement(s). If I can swing it, T/S check. Probably will mount one driver on the inside of the manifold for this. Then swing it 'round, mount up the other one, and do some IB measurements and tests. Ultimately, I think the success will be the versatility, not ultimate SQ - an IB delivers SQ even with less than stellar drivers for different reasons than most folks consider. But if there are other benefits to these specific drivers, it may open the market options for you. The reality is that most people will not be able to cut holes in walls/floors and/or have adjacent space to even use for IB. I would be asking myself, "can I sell a full order of drivers, and can I afford to sit on them for the time it takes to sell 'em". And will I mind if I don't sell 'em all. I've always had to say "probably not, probably not, and you bet" which is why I've never even pondered doing what your'e doing for very long. C

Hey Chris, which is why I've never even pondered doing what your'e doing for very long. The challenge of doing business in any of these niche markets is getting the word out and like you mentioned having the resolve to stay in the game. I have a day job that keeps the bills paid and this audio adventure is a secondary. My main focus is on the performance/value aspect of the product and this is what drives me with these drivers... I want to see them become available because the really are nice. I say this from a hobbyist point of view first, because I would really like to have them in my system. What time I did get to spend with them before I sent them on their Beta tests allowed me to become quite taken by their potential.. We stand to make a lot of guys happy with these if I can overcome all the challenges that bringing a product like this to market would initial. This gets me back to an earlier question I had for Thomas..... What would we have to do in order to be listed in your : home.comcast.net/~infinitelybaffled/page9IB-stealsand%20deals.htmlSection? I think that in order to have any hope of selling these I would need endorsements from several satisfied customers.. This is how we got the word out on the OB drivers.... Get them out to the people and hit them up for reviews and first hand impressions. The beta test are to some extent an unbiased first hand account of the drivers potential. Combine that with several more good reviews from satisfied customers and possibly a recommendation listing on this forum and it's conceivable that this may work. I do agree that this will take some time and I have to ask myself if the drivers are worth the effort.........So far we have received several thumbs up from the testers , the few shortcoming mentioned were expected and understandable. This could go either way... I have truly not made up my mind yet......... Thanks Chris, Darrel

Are they (either the 15" or the 18") available?

Are they (either the 15" or the 18") available? Hey Formica, These Beta test unit are the only ones in existence and there in is the question.... Do I reject these and kill the project or do I except them and obligate myself to buying a rather large amount of them in hopes of being able to one day sell them? Darrel

I like the pricing on the quad 18 This will definitely be one of my driver considerations when I finally pull the trigger on drivers.
