My IB is still weeks off but I have access to most new titles. If you want a movie analyzed just tell me which and the approximate scenes.

How about "The Rundown" starring Rock. There is a club fight scene near the beginning where the Rock slams a guy to the ground(to be more specific he performs a "rock bottom" on him). Whenever I play this scene I get a little shake, wondering if it's subsonic. Also, near the end of the flick, there is definetely a subsonic moment. It's the scene where the Rock picks up the shot gun behind the wall(I'll try and get you a time for this one). The camera quickly pans/cuts from the rock to his friend and to the bad guys, when it cuts to one bad guy the room shakes. Thanks!

Jim-
I scanned the last section of the movie where the Rock uses the shotguns but no super deep bass seemed present. Is there a particular time where you hear it?

Ok, it's at 1hour22min 14 secs. The camera is panning to a guy with an assault rifle. I just played it again to make sure, and there is for sure something there. You need to be playing the movie pretty loud, but it's only a sensation, not a sound above 20hz, I feel pretty sure of that. Pulses for less than a half a second. Let me know, thanks for all the effort!

Anything in the Incredibles worth posting?? Yeah, a very general request... but it's a fun movie with great sound so it would be fun to use as a demo...

Hey jman, i would love to see if batman begins really has 2Hz-10Hz content. The 3 or 4 scarecrow/toxin scenes are supposedly where this content is. Thanks

How about the Earth explosion in "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy"?

There's supposed to be 3Hz stuff on Batman Begins.

How about the Earth explosion in "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy"? I got an even better scene. When Arthur is talking to Trillian after she gets pout of the shower on the ship there is a SUSTAINED 10hz (or lower) note.

"Children of Men" has a fantastic battle scene soundtrack near the end. The explosions from the tanks firing into a block of flats (apartment block) shook the whole house! My wife was making coffee downstairs and said the boarded kitchen ceiling shook and creaked loudly. The cones on my 4 x 15" drivers finally got some serious exercise! Woohoo! Worth checking for very high levels of VLF.

Hey Chris...we can safely assume the manifold route has worked out for you.

Hey Chris...we can safely assume the manifold route has worked out for you. Absolutely! The lack of mechanical noise from the structure of the house is not the only gain. With the array I was flat out on the sub with no room for adjustment relative to the speakers. I literally could not run the IB "hot" while still using BFD boost to lift the drooping bottom end. Now I have incredible output right down to 10Hz with the desirable floor vibration that was so lacking with the array. I'm still using heavy bottom end boost. 2 x +8dB @ 20Hz 120/60. Suddenly having so much brute power available makes me wonder why I persisted with the array for so long. Procrastination is at the root of it. I kept hoping I could improve the array by electronic means. Having to completely redo the job with my wife's concerns about more sawdust and further disruption were serious worries. She was finally sold on the idea when she heard the manifold. The array didn't satisfy at all on rock music. The only downside is the 4' high box out in the IB enclosure. It seems not to worry my wife at all. I have placed my EP2500 on top to get rid of the former steel table to regain the floor space I lost. I have the driver magnets inside the manifold where the door opens against the box. It looks much neater in the room with a simple hole in the wall. I have yet to frame it or cover the hole with cloth or a grill as I like being able to check cone movement visually and physically. Particularly on new films. The only worry now is how to re-board the 45 degree sloping ceiling of the IB enclosure. There is 12" of rockwool behind the polythene DPM which is probably doing some good acoustically. I can't leave it as ugly polythene for much longer though.

Have you posted a pic of your installation yet?

There are pictures of my manifold inside and out in my Frappr profile signature below this post. I still haven't made it look pretty yet.

Do you think your array wall was particularly flimsy/flexible/low mass? I did a 4 driver array but have yet to mount the last 2 and try the IB out. If it does flex the wall too much, I may seal 2 openings and use 2 small manifolds.

Yes my wall was all of those. The studs were not as deep as modern construction but they were planked over horizontally both sides. Cutting away the planks to install the IB robbed me of most of the stiffness in the wall. I tried attaching 2 x 4s both sides of the array using 6" screws but it really didn't help much. The baffle was 2 layers of quality 3/4" ply randomly screwed and glued together but it shook visibly most of the time. Adding the back louver added another depth of timber but with very little obvious effect. The REW graph showed a slight lift at the bottom end. My manifold is working like a supercharger while adding heaps of sound quality. Bypassing the BFD gives me incredibly loud but still superbly well controlled bass. It wouldn't be out of place on bass guitar at a rock concert. I would seriously consider opposed driver manifolds instead of an array unless your wall is very heavily built. If you can place one driver between each joist down at floor level that would be much stiffer than a vertical array. Building an array into a brick or block wall would be a much safer option in avoiding wall flex. Even a stiff stud wall will flex slightly. There is often a huge area involved and all the sound coming from the wall surface is out of phase with the drivers.

I am kind of confused looking at the pics of your manifold . How did you mount it...where is the opening ,from the side or front... ?? I know you have the drivers one behind the other..

My manifold opening is into the AV room. One pair of drivers faces inwards on one side of the manifold and the other two face outwards on the other side.
Naturally they are wired to all move inwards towards the room at the same time. Otherwise they would cancel each other out. Being in opposition they cancel out each other's mechanical vibrations. (despite all facing the same way)
If you look at Jeffery F's manifold images at the bottom of page 4 of the Cult's Gallery you'll get a much better idea of this driver arrangement. My manifold is simply a little larger and fixed in the wall rather than a door.

i have a request: The scene from Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring Disk two where the group is running in the mines of Moria and they start going down the bridge and the demon below them begins destroying the foundations causing the bridge to collapse. It seems to have some very insane bass and was rippling the air around me. Hope you can scan this one if you get time J, it's one of my fave scenes to test new subs with, and needless to say the first scene to be played on my new IB ;D Thanks J
