I'm thinking about getting a new amp for my IB... and maybe new drivers. If I get a new amp, I definitely want it to have the potential to be turned on automatically via a d/c trigger. I also would like it to deliver about the same power as the venerable EP-2500. Any recommendations?

I found this on amazon... www.amazon.com/SVAT-WRC101-Wireless-Outdoor-Control/dp/B000HAVVKG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_topI got a Harmony One remote for Christmas. I wonder if I could program it to act like the attached remote and make it function as of the turn on sequence. The other concern is whether this would pass enough power/current to a large amp. The one from Sears looks nice, but I think it is too big to plug into the back of a power conditioner. I have the Panamax MAX-5400EX.

The one on the Amazon link is only 10 amps. Look for ones that are 15 amps.
Another option and what I use are Furman sequencers, these are designed to turn on prosound gear via a triggering signal

I'm going to get one of these to handle remotly switching on some of my HT gear such as the IB amp give it hasn't got a 12v trigger. Those are cool, I haven't seen anything like that sold in the US.

Yes for $50 AU it looks like it will do the job well, I can just add it as a device on my Harmony One remote. Unfortunately I don't think this would even work with plug adaptors in the US unless you modified the IR section for 110V. This would have to be a first, a consumer item available in Australia that is not available in the US

I just spliced in a SPST 40A automotive relay in the power cord of my EP2500, and it's powered from the preamp's 12v+ trigger... Not recommended for those with children having access to the rear of the amp rack..

If you want to go the DIY route, you can build it to whatever specs you need. I built a relay box with 4 30A DPST relays that get switched from my Marantz trigger. This box controls my IB amp and eventually the other amps for the rest of the HT speakers. It took me a couple or so hours to build, and cost ~$110. I included a timer kit to prevent turn on thumps, but if eliminated this you'd save about $20. I've got a rough schematic if you want to take a look......

I had to be patient, but I was able to pick up a Furman power sequencer on ebay several months back for around $70 used. It's rated at 20 amps and has 3 separate triggered duplex plugs. First comes on instantly, the next after a setable amount, and the next after the same amount of time. There is also an unswitched duplex on it. I had to rig a small relay from my receiver and run a dedicated 20 amp circuit for it, but well worth it.

I built a slave power up kit which works well for this. It's a Jaycar kit (won't help outside Australia), but perhaps you can find similar. You use one component as the master control device - something you can turn on and off with a remote. Then you connect a power board to the "slave output" so that they all get switched on when the master unit powers up. The great thing about this is that even diy things get switched on with the remote, as well as the pro power amps. I modified mine with a key switch which I can use to disable the entire system.
