room eq choices

i am gathering my components for my ib build and am at the point where i am looking for ways to eq. i have read the threads and stickys on the different methods. i am new to this, so what would u all recommend. i have the fbq2496. should i get the deq2496, or is that too much for a beginner like me. i read where it said it was an all-in-one setup. all i would need is a mic. i also read i could get a rs meter and download software, and get an outboard sound card. which would be the best method. sorry if this was discussed somewhere. i couldnt find anything on it.
