Well I managed to toast my Dayton 15" IB subs. What should I replace them with?
They're driven by a Behringer EP2500 amp with a Behringer DSP1124P in front of it. The manifold is in place. I'm just looking to replace the drivers. I'm a bit reluctant to buy Dayton again.
To answer the inevitable question... I have no idea what happened or when it happened. My suspicion is that during one of my son's "house sitting" stints he and his buddies cranked up the rap (BLECH!!!) a bit too much. It doesn't matter now. They both still work but both voice coils are rubbing and they sound like ass!

I'm stuck at 15" without reinventing my whole world. I don't have the time, the ambition or the cash to re-do everything right now.
Budget wise I'd like to stay around $300 or so.
Of the two you referenced is there any distinct advantage to either one? I couldn't get the Fi link to open.
Lake Wales area. About an hour from Tampa.

I would go with the AE for the price and performance. The Fi are about $190 each. www.ficaraudio.comI am located at 50 and 75 just north of Tampa.

Just two.
90% of my listening is 2.1 channel stereo. I have a pair of Klipsch La Scalas that don't do real well below 80Hz. I've got the preamp crossed over to the sub at 80Hz.
It's entirely possible that they just succumbed to 7 years in a Florida attic. I may try rotating them 180 degrees to see if that makes any difference. I doubt it but stranger things have happened.
Oh yea... Ridge Manor / Brooksville area. I've worked in that end of the world in a past live. I bought my La Scalas from a guy not too far from there.

OK... Maybe I shouldn't be pointing any fingers at my son quite yet.

I would go with the AE 15's unless you need more output. I think the DIY Cable 15's have a little more Xmax for $30 more. That may buy you a little more protection from spirited listening by others.

If these are subject to abuse might want to save up and go with the Fi 15"s and their higher Xmax.
Either the Fi or AE drivers can be rebuilt, the Dayton and Exodus can't be rebuilt.

This sounds like a case of needing so much overkill that the kids won't ever exceed the displacement available. 4 x 18" Fi318s should do it. You would also have the extra insurance that the police would be called long before structural damage occurred. The EP2500 also has stealth clip limiters and high pass filters. These may prove to be your secret friends while the kids are house sitting. Knowledge is power! We wont tell if you don't. ;D

Updated...
I owe my son an apology. It was definately 7 years in a Florida attic that killed the IB drivers.
The spiders have come unglued most of the way arround allowing the cones / voice coils to get out of line and rub. It looks like if I could find replacement dustcaps and the right shims/spacers that I could do a repair on them.
HMMM...

Save the planet and mankind! Home made voicecoil sleeves and a suitable glue.. ? It is well beyond the call of IB Cult duty to inspect the drivers on Christmas day. Good luck, Sir.

The drivers are made by Eminence for PE, so lots of the parts used in them are pretty generic.
I would think a reconing shop could rebuild them for a fraction the price of new drivers. Check the local yellow pages for speaker reconing/rebuilding services
