I have read across the net that the EP4000 is a rebadged EP2500... but these were mostly posts made by people stating what they've read elsewhere. There are several threads on bench testing various pro amps including the EP2500... but I haven't found any testing on the EP4000... or any where someone took he hood off an EP4000 to verify the internals are the same. I ask because I have four 2ohm IB3 subs. I run each pair in series for stereo 4ohm loads off a Samson S700 (listed at 175 watts per driver) and I'm in some serious need of increased power !

Although I don't have the link in front of me, people over at AVS pulled the cover off and found basically the exact same components in the ep4000 as the ep2500.
Confirmed rebadge.
But I don't think you'll really find much of a better price for the wattage with any other amp. You could try with just one EP4000 and see if that get's loud enough for you, and if not, fell free to add another. Keep in mind though, doubling the amperage will only succeed in increasing sound ouput by 3dB. That's a pretty expensive increase, imho.

Cool. Thanks! I'll probably pick up the 4000. Fan noise is obviously a concern. I read about somebody doing the fan mod on a 4000 and it overheating. My HT gets pretty hot in the summer so I'll probably stick it in an adjacent room and leave the stock fans.

I've got one of each and they seem identical to me. I think the 2500 was named after RMS wattage and the 4000 was named after peak wattage.
