I have two NIB Avalanche 18" subwoofers I bought a few years ago that I've never put to use. I do want to build some nice beefy HT subs when I have more time but have been considering selling these for now and buying new replacements later. I've been researching this before I commit to a sale.
Am I really seeing what I think I'm seeing? Are new subs that are just as good regarding sound quality and volume output REALLY selling for $1000+? If so then I guess I'll keep these.

I bought 4 of them at the closeout price of 275 each, I think they retailed for 399. They're great drivers but I would say they are about equal to the Ficaraudio subs at around 200 each. BTW, how could you possibly keep 2 AAA subs in a box that long, I know I couldn't ;D

Project delays happen for many reasons which we all have to deal with in our lives. Stuff just happens. I've been looking for suitable replacements for these and can't find any with similar specs for less than $1000 each (new). I eventually want to build a sub system capable of some serious window-rattling authority down into the teens and do so with very little distortion. These will be used for music as much as with HT. Maybe I've just forgotten too much of what I once "thought" I knew and no longer know what I should be looking for. BTW, I bought these for (I think) $275 shipped on AA's initial pre-order. From what I understand, the very first run was the best AA ever made because they made a minor modification after that.

So, did you decide one way or the other ? I have a pair of Avalanche 18's, and have always thought it would be nice to add a 2nd pair... Let me know.... ...thanks...

Those are great drivers, no? IIRC about 30mm Xmax and good low Fs?
Seems like they hold up to about anything today.
----------
Driver quality is most important for single driver subs pushed to the ragged edge. A one employs multiple drivers into a sub system, spreading the signal across several units, the emphasis on needing a very high quality driver is lessened significantly.
That's the inherent beauty of a big IB system, the large swept area represented by the system allows each individual driver to merely be tickled at typical levels, thus linearizing the entire output.
Good luck with these

OP, lemme know if you wanna sell two. My existing 2 perform brilliantly and 2 more might be nice overkill📣

nolook / norpus,
I'm afraid to ship these. I have the original boxes but they're not in the best condition. I guess I'll just install these once the new structure is finished. Sorry for the tease.
Edit: Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been on the forum in awhile.
