I hope this is in the right forum... I searched and found reference to aperiodic damping of subwoofer back waves but nothing regarding the front.
What I propose is a double grill (for each driver) with damping material squeezed between the grills to damp cone resonance. I know IB subs need to breathe but this is a little different than damping them from the rear since there's practically no air mass between the membranes and the woofers. This has the added benefit of mechanically filtering cone noise/distortion above the playing frequencies also.
Any thoughts?

The fundamental concept with IB subs is to have nothing interfering with either the front or rear waves coming off the driver. So the idea as presented is antithetical to what we're trying to achieve...
