In reviewing the forum is sounds like the EP4000 is the dependable workhorse loved by all...... or at least many.
I am not finding much in the way of opinion regarding the Crown xls5000, so asking the opinions of those who may have experience in the matter. Price is obviously different, as I am finding the EP in the $300-400 range and the XLS in the $500-800.
Would the XLS really be the rough equal of a pair of EP's?
FWIW- four FI IB18 4ohm to be installed via manifold. Actual viewing room is roughly 17x22, but open vertically 3 1/2 stories high (various rooms open to each other). TERRIBLE for audio!
Thanks in advance.

Well, measured, the EP puts out about 2kw bridged mono @4ohms.
So yeah, as long as the Crown puts out 5kw @4ohms, it's essentially double that of the EP.
In my opinion, they're both a steal, so it all depends on exactly what your requirements, ..power wise, would be.
I've read threads were the Crown is used both in IB's, and conventional box subs, without issues.
Good luck
