What are some good drivers for IB?
Also, I am not very concerned about SPL. I do not play loud, and I intend to have 4 drivers in my room.
I would like to stay under $250 per driver... Less is better, if the difference isn't significant.
Also, I want them to play low. I can use MiniDSP to equalize, but in the end I want to be able to get around 90dB (should be easy with 4 drivers?), but still 16-20Hz F3.
Please note: My room does not provide significant boost. The two-ways I just designed, for example - are actually a little low with NO BSC.

You're welcome. I intend to buy at least two of those woofers in eighteen inch. If the 15's and 18's live up to their specs they'll be nearly identical to the old Ascendant Audio Avalanche drivers at about one fourth of the MSRP. If I remember correctly the expected factory-direct prices are $160 for the 15's and $190 for the 18's. If they really are that good then those prices are outstanding.

What are some good drivers for IB? You may skip to the bottom asterisk, cause I'm gonna bitch a little. ---------- Any time at all spent looking around this entire forum, would quickly illustrate what drivers most individuals have used in previous builds, and what drivers are currently being used for builds. A recommendation for those drivers above from SI may or may not be a good idea. Manufacturing suitable drivers is merely one element. It may be un-wise to purchase drives that can't be repaired, should a re-coning be needed. Also, the marketplace is littered with formerly made drivers that can no longer be purchased, so ideally utilizing a manufacturer that's shown some degree of staying power and adaptability would be prudent. Make no mistake, I welcome any mfr. to enter the fray and the competition is typically good for everyone. But there's so many very talented subwoofer driver manufacturers that come and go due to the volatility of the business. They can design an outstanding product but they're dependent on other factors such as inconsistencies w/their build house, difficulty in availability of raw materials. I know, I'm a bitch But all the above problems has happened to outstanding sub driver designers/builders recently, and many of us here know there was for a several month period, there were essentially no suitable IB drivers to be had anywhere. It was somewhat of a perfect storm of circumstances, that finally worked it's way out. Currently, there are a few very good sources for IB subs. ---------- * I'd recommend Fi. Specifically, the IB3-18, a set of four powered by a Behringer EP4000. At a couple hundred watts per driver, you'll get around 125dB@1m@20hz for about $1300. I'm not familar with any box sub that can do that. Regarding Fi, their stuff performs solidly, both measurably and subjectively. In multiples, many of the performance minutia that we discuss about sub drivers etc, become insignificant. Seriously, utilizing four of them for $900 or so renders all the hair splitting about this and that, essentially a moot point. Most importantly would be proper optimization of the IB system into your room, and your LCR mains. A quality build and optimization, those are the important parts,... driver selection is easy. Fi is an OEM build house for other mfrs., so this contributes to their stability. Good luck

RE: Volatility... Sure enough all of that is true. It's true about most products these days. If the price is right and the product is excellent I then don't worry about it anymore. All companies will have a t least some inconsistencies. And... they'll all go belly-up one day. I do have some product loyalty but I also want to support and reward competition of those companies to which I'm loyal. Without competition there is no progress... think AT&T.
That stated and out of the way... I've read many good reports about the FI's products.

Fi will recone the drivers it's owners have built over the years, this includes drivers made under the following names
Destijl engineering Blueprint Ascendent Audio Resonant Engineering aka [RE] Fi
This is why they get our business

Looking on google, I think ascendant is the only one I have been able to find a seller for. Where do I buy these other brands, who stocks them? Especially, I want to find the Fi 18. Their site only shows 12 and 15.
