Hello, I have a question regarding the optimal stratgy for managing gain in a system. I have an Integra DTR-50.3 receiver, a Velodyne SMS-1, and a Behringer EP4000 that will manage two in-floor IB subwoofer manifolds, each having dual-opposed FiCar IB 318 drivers. I could adjust the gain in the Integra, the Velodye, or the Behringer. I suppose you could argue that there are two places in the Integra that you can manage gain if you consider the Audyssey MULTEQ XT. Anyway, my question is... Should I try to keep the gain proportional on all three units, or should I weight some higher or lower than others? Does it matter, from a sound quality perspective, if I raise the gain upstream vs in the power amplifier? Thanks in advance for your feedback. John

As a general rule the higher the gain the higher the distortion.
That said in the passband where a sub it operating it's unlikely you'd be able to identify one source over another as having more distortion.
