Do you guys think that it's alright to configure a manifold with 2x18" deep, and 2x18" per side, yielding 4x18" total? I like the fact that this configuration leaves the smallest hole in the wall. Is there any reason why this would be sub-optimal?

Per the FAQ it's best to have the manifold shallow rather than deep. A manifold with 2 18"s one behind the other will be a 'tube' almost 4' deep. That creates a situation where the timing can be messed up since there will be a timing delay between notes leaving the first driver compared to the second one.

Bummer. What got me thinking about this approach was the 12 Dancing Shiva's project. I hopefully have the horizontal space to put two manifolds side by side. If not, then it's back to the drawing board.

No, you're understanding fine. I was just trying to minimize the width of manifold by putting the second pair behind the first pair. The wall where the manifold will go has structural support struts for the vaulted ceiling and roof running diagonally, but has a decent sized gap in the center. Some of these vertical supports will have to be re-located to make room for the manifold. I'll have to check if I have the horizontal spacing available for an 22" or so width (18" woofer with space on either side).

Nice setup by the way! Are those 18"s or 15"s?

Haha, never mind. The size of your woofers are in the title of your thread. Thanks!

I just noticed this photo in the updated FAQ. This was what I was sort of envisioning:

This was what I was sort of envisioning: And that's what you want to avoid if possible for the reasons I put in my last post.
