Just saw the pics of the room posted on AVS.....
Were this my room I'd put 1 or 2 drivers on each side wall mounted as far toward the front of the room as possible.
A piece of 3/4" ply would seal off the equipment rack.
Then I'd put 2 drivers in a manifold on the rearwall.

Unfortunately, placing subs in the side walls is out of the question for this room and it's layout. Perhaps I originally should have gone into greater detail about the front wall and it's future. My contractor is coming by tomorrow to further discuss how we're going to 'blow out' what will be the front wall. It will go from a slanted ceiling with 4ft knee walls to a standard she'd dormer style roofline, effectively allowing me to gain about 3.5 to 4ft of floorspace. This is the current front wall. The red lines indicate the width of the new front wall Example of how the wall will look after...but without windows. As I'm sitting and facing the front wall, THIS is the left "wall" (no sub going anywhere along those built ins). And this is the right wall. The right wall is also the stair/hallway into the bonus room. (No sub in this wall either for fear of someone touching or slamming their head against as they leave the room. *Cross posted on AVS

Thomas when you mention adding a piece of 3/4" plywood to seal off the av rack, you're essentially saying that as-is the av rack and the space it's in can't stay open correct? Which means I'd need to wall it off, but wouldn't that lower my VAS?

Which means I'd need to wall it off, but wouldn't that lower my VAS? If you're using the rear-wall closet the equipment area has nothing to do with the space for the IB rearwave. If you were to use the sidewall for an IB the only thing needed is to close off the back of the equipment rack. That would have essentially no impact on the space available for the IB rearwave.
