I currently have an IB system consisting of 4 15" Parts Express IB drivers in a 2x2 manifold mounted in a side wall toward the front of the room. I'm thinking of re-configuring my HT in a manner that would let me mount the drivers right beneath the screen (no manifold). If I do that, how sturdy of a substrate should I use to mount the drivers. Would 3/4" plywood be enough or should I double that up? The substrate would be screwed to 2x4 studs, though I might have vary the usual 16" OC spacing for even spacing of the drivers.
The Parts Express drivers are a bit old school but I'm inclined to keep them since they seem to produce more than adequate bass in my relatively small HT--and they are already paid for!
Thanks for any advice.

Hi,
Yes use doubled 3/4" material for front facing drivers
Sorry for the delay in responding, we traveled to our cabin to isolate until the fall. It takes me a while to get internet up and running

System is operational but incomplete - it is temporarily an open baffle.

I wonder if a 2x4 wall will be stiff enough, or if it might tend to act like a larger diaphragm. After you get IB up and running, look and feel for the wall vibrating. It could be stiffened by slicing a sheet of OSB into 1 foot wide slices and screwing them to the 2x4s, making them act more like 2x12s. I would guess that 7/16" OSB would be enough. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's always easier to get it right the first time rather than trying to fix mistakes.
