I am planning to build Dipole Bass Systems which should work from 20- 200Hz. As I got from one of the driver suppliers the feedback below I would like to hear second opinion from members of IB forum:
... For dipoles you need something that is has lots of pole vent and spacing under the spider. The air noises from the driver under operation are audible when your running them free-air. Something like the Tumult with it's larger 3" VC would be ideal....
I am planning to use two IB 15 per channel, but am confused as they do not have 3" VC. Adire Tumult is out off price range. Are there any less expensive options?
Thanks , Matt

I don't know where that came from but it's not correct. For a dipole all you need is a driver that doesn't 'chuff' regardless of the design. So it doesn't matter if the VC is it's 2" or 3", just so it's quiet.
There's nothing I'm aware of that's a better bargain than the AE-IB15"s.

The comment came from Exodus Audio on question related to new Exodus drivers.
"The Exodus drivers have been slightly delayed due to some production issues. We are now looking at a mid-November arrival time. On to the question... for dipoles you need something that is has lots of pole vent and spacing under the spider. The air noises from the driver under operation are audible when your running them free-air. The EX & CX both are relatively small VCs and that limits the size of the pole vent. Without doing some more testing I'm not going to recommend them for dipole use. Something like the Tumult with it's larger 3" VC would be ideal."
Thanks, Matt

My statement was rhetorical. I don't really care where the statement came from, since it's not accurate as a "generic" comment regarding all 2" VC drivers If Adire doesn't recommend using their 2" VC drivers for dipole then don't use them. The IB15"s have been successfully use in both IB and dipoles. They cost less than the Adire drivers and they're available.... Here's a link to a thread where a all dipole fullrange system was built using the IB15"s. He's had no problems with chuffing Paul's IB15 fullrange dipole system
