I won't be selling my 4 Avalanche 18's but I look forward to seeing some specs and prices on these monsters. There may be a new "preferred" driver in town.

I only have two, but I'm in the same boat as you.

Would there be a problem in matching two of these with two Avalanche 18's?

You can't pair a driver with 27mm of Xmax to one having 14mm of Xmax

Would there be a problem in matching two of these with two Avalanche 18's? You could, But would have to amplify, EQ and set them up seperately Just like you would with two different box subs. Putting them on the same EQ and amplification with your avalanches would require you eq and set levels for the less capable drivers and let the Avalanches simply coast along at the levels of the Lesser drivers. Thus not allowing the avalanches to be used to their full potential. A waste of displacement. Getting two more avalanches on the used market would be better in the long run. Or selling the Avalanches and going with new drivers that will exceed you current displacement. your 2 Ava 18's are at 13 liters displacement. ( 6.5 liters each ) 4 of the Alliance 18 will give you approx 17 liters displacement (4.3 liters each assuming SD is equivalent to the Avalanche and 18mm xmax) . Adding two more Avalanche 18's would give you 26 liters displacement. You would need six of the Alliance drivers to get there. All of this is speculation that the Alliance drivers have 1210 SD(mm^2) and 18mm xmax. Maybe more, maybe less.

I figured as much - I'll just hang on to the Avs.
Thanks for the responses.

AA's Web site has finally been updated! Many of the links are not working yet, but hopefully they soon will be.
Does anybody know where the Arsenal fits into the product line? Should we consider it for IB, and if pricing will be similar for an Arsenal 15 and an Alliance 18, would one gain sound quality at the expense of extension and SPL by going with 4 Arsenal 15 vs 4 Alliance 18 drivers? I'll try to give them a call tomorrow to get more insight.

Still no information on the website regarding the Alliance. Hopefully something here in the next few days.
I don't think the Arsenal is going to speced to work in a IB.

Confucius says it vacuums to wait on companies to release drivers for IB! I mean where are those Adiar drivers (or Exodus audio)? AE has nothad a steady supply or timely behavior for at least the last 7-8 months.... Sorry for the rant I need to buy drivers sooner rather than later and I don't want to spend too much. I am a few weeks away from buying 2 Soundsplinter 15's or some PE IB drivers but I would love to buy AE IB or these new 18's ..... The wait continues....

I talked to AA today (not Chad, he's busy updating the web site) and it'll be another six weeks or so before the Alliance 18 will be shipping. Hopefully that date is pretty firm and details will be released prior to then, I'd like to be able to decide before PE's IB15 drivers go off special (2/23).

Just got around to checking my email, and behold, Chad had sent me an answer to an inquiry I mailed a few days ago. Here's a brief recap:
"They are most likely 1-2 months away."
"They were designed not to need EQ to flatten them out."
"The Alliance 18 plays louder than the Avalanche 18 with the same power. It is also flatter up to higher frequencies thanks to its shorting ring."
"We will probably have the specs up by the end of the week."
And the best part:
"We are planning a pre-order sale for the alliance 18 IB subwoofers very shortly."

Specs posted and price. I was hoping for a lower price. $399 is a lot of money for 1 18" sub. You could buy 4x Dayton 15" for that price, and im sure 4 15's would move a lot more air than 1 18. ascendantaudio.com/allliance_page.htmlReek

Somehow I doubt that's the low buck IB sub Chad's told us he's going to offer....

Keep in mind that the product page just shows the regular price. Chad said he'd have a pre-order sale on the Alliance shortly, my guess is that he's waiting to get closer to actual product availability. Even that isn't likely to get it close to $200, but hopefully less than $300. Maybe he'll discount it further if you order four or more.
BTW, the rumors had this at 18mm Xmax, the product page shows 20.5mm.
The Vas is 657L, the Dayton IB15 has 314L. Isn't there more to a driver than displacement, though? For example, won't the 18" Alliance play deeper?

Just got off the phone with the guys at A.A. I was asking about the Alliance 18, and a volume discount for four units. During the conversation I threw in the Cult of the Infinitely Baffled. They were unaware of the new website for us and thought we were a "market lost" !!Anyhow, I gave the web address for this site, and they are calling back after talking with Chad regarding a special price on the Alliance for the "cult" gang. Just thought I would let you know, and perhaps if we got some more members to contact them we might get an even better price.
