I'm looking at the Behrenger EP-2500 & the QSC RMX-1850HD. These amps look like they are built on the same chassis. Are they the same circuit? I'll be making 2 or 4 IB's of 2 - TC2+ 15" each, wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load. Any recommendations here for this type of load?

If you google around you'll find that the Behringer is almost a exact copy of the QSC. This issue makes politically correct people quite mad.
Why do you want a 2 ohm load? This isn't car audio where the goal is to get the highest output possible. Amps put out the highest power at 2 ohms, but it's easier on the amp to drive a 4 or 8 ohm load.

If I wire them in series I can have an 8 ohm load. I can't think of anyway to get a 4 ohm with 2 - 4 ohm drivers. Do you recommend 8 ohm? If so which amp is enough? Thanks

Either amp is fine it just depends on how much money you want to spend.

The RMX2450 and the EP2500 are equals in specs, but not in price.

Listen to Thomas - he speaks the truth.
I had a Crown K2, sold it, and bought a Crest CA-18 to power my 4 Avalanche 18's. I currently have the amp gain set to "-70" (it goes from -80 to 0), and it literally causes my house to "heave." (I'm feeding it a "0" signal from my Denon 4806, by way of a BFD) My theater room is in the basement, has 2x6 construction with soundboard, drywall, and R25 insulation... my stove rattles (and it's upstairs and 45 feet away), my dishes rattle, my floor/ceiling heaves -- it's scary.
I didn't believe that I could run 4 18's on so little power... don't get me wrong, I love the CA-18 (and the K2), but they really are overkill for IB duty... now, if I had 4 small, sealed boxes... then the power might be justified.

Something like the ep2500 drives (per their specs) 400-450 watts a channel at 8-ohms and 650 at 4 ohm. If you only have 2 drivers this sort of power starts to exceed the rated thermal power on the drivers. You will have the power to blow up your drivers in a sealed box not to memtion a free air IB.
2 ohms is way overkill for power and the amp will not run as clean.
With 4 drivers it might not be too bad if you run the drivers in seires to get 8 ohms a side and about 200 watts a driver. The amp will run cooler and cleaner at 8 ohms per channel plus you get better damping specs @ 8 ohms.

Interesting. I'm doing pretty much the same setup and I currently have a Samson S1000. It can do 340 watts/ch into 8ohms if I wire each pair in series VC/series driver. Sounds like that'll be plenty if you are running the crest with so little of it's gain range. Looking forward to that "heaving" effect.

The heaving is only fun until you notice that a floor that was once *solid* now squeaks and creaks when you walk on it in various spots. I'm almost afraid to keep using the subs at "optimal" volumes... although it is fun to feel your pants move and your chest compress while watching fight scenes or listening to something really bass intensive, like Tool... (was never a big fan of theirs, but their bass tracks are unreal on the IB)
I was listening to one of the songs one night, receiver was at about -35, sub amp at -70, receiver sending a "0" signal to the amp, and my wife came down stairs... she said our master bedroom wall (45'+ away from the theater) was rattling so badly that she couldn't read. I went upstairs and leaned against the wall, and it was like someone was hitting me in the back with fists, ala a Shiatsu massage... about two days later, I noticed my first new floor "creeeek."

Tom Nousaine has complained that his IB is actually delaminating the plywood floor. I can only guess what SPL he runs........

EEEEEEEK. That's not what I wanted to hear, Thomas! Think I could unhook two of the subs?

Musician's Friend has the Nady amps all on a big time sale right now. I got a flyer in the mail that listed the xa-2100 for $299 which is already a stupid good deal for the power, but then I surfed over to their web site and it is there for $279 + free shipping! WOW! here is the link: www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=live/search/detail/base_pid/482056/Greg

Not only that ... the Nady XA-900 is only $150 + free shipping! That's unbelievable!!! When you consider the shipping, that's virtually as cheap as the 250 watt plate amps.

Amazon.com apparently has the Nady XA-1100 for $142.99 with free shipping. Couldn't resist that, so I guess my XA-900 will be going with my two 15" box subs, which it is now driving anyway. Need to get some other remodeling stuff out of the way, so I can get started on the IB.

The XA-1100 showed up today. I must admit, it's much bigger and heavier than I ever imagined. In fact, I think I could just set my TV on top of it its so solid. Not bad for $146 shipped!

I found the 80mmx80mmx25mm Panaflo fans mentioned on the steals & deals page for .99 each on ebay, cost more to ship than buy. Will hopefully have em and installed next week. The amp seems to do ok idle and at normal volumes with fans disconnected.. playing various sub-20hz test tones really warmed it up though. I concur, it is definitely heavier than imagined.

Recieved my XA-1100 today. Suprisingly, the fans in it are quieter than the fans in my XA-900. I think I'll replace the fans in the 900 and if it winds up quieter than the 1100, I'll take care of it too.
