New to the IB scene and debating 4 Alliance 18's (4 ohm, single voice coil). Would it be better to drive them as pairs wired in series for 8 ohms/channel using a single amp (ie. PLX 3402 @ 700 watts/channel - 8 ohms = 350 watts/driver); Or to use two stereo amps driving them individually (ie. 2 X RMX 1450 @ 400 watts/channel - 4 ohms) Lastly, for subwoofer, particularly LFE usage, is there a significant difference between using the PLX versus RMX series??? Note: The amps will be in a separate room so fan noise should not be an issue.... Thanks for any info!! Wyatt

There's is no 'better or 'best' when it comes to wiring the drivers or number of amps used, as long as there's adequate power for the task and the amps aren't being stressed.
The 50 watt difference between the two examples you describe would be inaudible.
I don't follow the model differences in the dozens and dozens of pro-sound amps on the market. Your question about the differences between the PLX and the RMX would be better ask on a pro-sound forum. Given the fact that home audio use puts very little stress on amps, I think there would be little or if any audible difference between the amps.
