I'll be building a 4 driver 15" IB, the brand of drivers aren't decided yet but will probably go with Acoustic Elegance IB15's when they become available. I don't know what the specs will be yet for those drivers but I wanted to buy the rest of the components needed while I wait. Would the Nady XA-1100 be sufficient for my purposes? I just want to avoid needing more power down the line and I'm not sure what the impedance of the IB 15's will be or how many voice coils etc... Should I just wait? I just wanted to jump on some of the $149.00 deals I see on that amp.
Thanks for any info.

I hope it's ok to post these links direclty. www.ambientweather.com/dbxa1100.htmlI emailed Musicians friend to see if they would price match as well. They may not because I doubt these two links are authorized dealers.

From the AmbientWeather website....
Keep an eye on the Musiciansfriend.com pricing frequently they have one of the Nady amps on special. Sometimes the special only lasts a day or so...

Ok, so if I can find a good deal on the amp I assume it would be sufficient for my plans or should I wait? My reading of this site and observations suggest it is plenty of amp for my needs but I always like the confirmation from others who have more experience with IB's since I have NONE!

You should be good to with with something like the XA-1100 for just about any IB you want to build for a normal living space. If you are worried about running out of power don't. IB's are very efficient. Watt for watt nothing plays subs launder that an ib. With out knowing the specs of the drivers you get lets just say you drivers are about 92db efficient when they are wired all together. (really they might be more like 96 or 98 db but who knows) This means you need about 1 watt to play 92db (this is loud). 10 watts takes you to 102(feeling the base and shaking the house) . 100 to a steady 112db (what did you say?). to make it to 122db (you are standing in front of the speakers at a rock concert and hurting your self) you would need 1000watts. The difference between a 400 watt amp and a 800watt amp is about 3db. Not that much in total output. Having a big amp is great. It means when you play your 10-100watts doing cool demos and shaking the house your amp is not being pushed and you can turn down the gain. I have personally played a 6 driver ib (5-6 liters of displacement) off of about 80-100watts and rocked the house (spl was over 100db?). You don't need that much power with multiple drivers. Plenty of people use the nady amps and like them don't be afraid to buy one. have a read at forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/109138.html

Geez, noisy fans or not, that's an unbelievable deal! And the fans can be swapped out for quieter ones.
I was going to buy one of the better quality QSC amps, but if I can pick one of these up for that low a price, I'll jump on it! It just makes you wonder how they can crank them out at this price and still make a profit!?

Hey Frank, did you end up getting one as well? Noisy fans are pretty easy to fix as you said and the price is dang good. It appears they didn't get the shipment on the day they were expecting but customer service said mine should ship in the next few days.

Not sure if this is the right place, but...Musician's Friend seems to be a really great company. Had a defective unit and they got me a new one out very quick. When I called the number to the store I actually got a person in about 3 rings. You don't have to worry about them.

Jim, a lot of folks on the head-fi forum refer to them frequently. I had just bought a piece of equipment from them based on a recommendation from a board member over there - easy ordering, email confirmations and tracking info, they shipped promptly, well packaged, overall very satisfied with MF (they also seem to handle the online sales of Guitar Center, a brick-and-mortar chain).
Darren, I just called them today and ordered it after going through the pricematch email routine (they matched the $140.xx offered by gomogear, free shipping, and I ended up buying the extended gold plan for @12.xx mainly because I felt sorry for the nice lady who helped me). Thx again for the tip! [Edit: Regarding availability, the shipment they were expecting to arrive on 3/1 either has been delayed or hasn't been entered into the system yet, but I'm still undecided on the drivers, so no hurry here).
Unbelievable deal on paper, though it really makes me wonder what exactly I can expect from this unit. You know, "if it sounds too good to be true...", "you get what you pay for", etc.

Insead of ordering quieter fans, just wire the 2 that come with it in series. I did that with mine and I cant even hear them sitting about 8 feet away. The series wiring slows the fans down a little, but mine never even gets the slightest bit warm, even when I drive it hard for long periods of time.

Wow, I never would have thought of that. I have to try it now Do you have pics of the inside and what you did? Just curious... no need to rip it apart to get pics if you don't, it sounds easy enough to do.

He he, don't feel too bad. They offered the price match and by doing so have most likely earned future business from both of us. I for one will definately be considering them for any future purchases because of this. I've never had a business price match guarantee actually hold up when I tried using it. This has been a first.

I'll see if I can find it and post a link. They didn't explain the series wiring but it's pretty easy to do. Just pick up a small length of wire (you might not need it but it's a little tight if you dont) and some barrel conectors. It works great and costs next to nothing.
