Took advantage of a price reduction on this amp. Initially saw it advertised locally at the Guitar Center for $249 (while supplies last). By the time I called (I was out of town for a few days) they were out so I looked on the WEB and found that Musician's Friend also had it for the same price with free shipping. Ordered it on Thursday and it arrived today; really quick service! Still in the process of checking out locations for my IB, but hope to have it together in the next few weeks (travelling again) It just has XLR inputs so I am not sure whether I am going to try it unbalanced to balanced, or use one of the boxes made to do the conversion plus match levels; anybody have any expeience without the box? Anyway, thought I would pass the info on.

I have a 602 powering my four 15" Daytons just using a set of homemade XLR to RCA cables & everything works perfect. My clip indicators will flash slightly at extreme volumes, but otherwise no problems. I have been thinking about buying a box to convert it but haven't made up my mind yet as to or not. It's my understanding that I'm not getting the full power out of the amp being that home & pro audio are two different line levels. But if I buy one I'll end up wonting two more cause I have another 602 & a 402, (just one of my little quarks) to make everything the same.

If you're able to light the clip indicators then I think you're getting full output from the amp. Any more gain and you'd just be farther into the red.

If you're able to light the clip indicators then I think you're getting full output from the amp. Any more gain and you'd just be farther into the red. From my understanding though the clip indicators will light when the signal coming in is clipping. If this is true I would suspect that the signal from my pre amp is starting to clip where the amps still have room to go. But even at extremes with the lights flashing the sound is perfectly clear. OTOH at these levels my speakers I believe are at there limits of either over extending or just being overpowered. Heres what stumps me though. I can back the gains down on the amps & turn my pre amp all the way up, and by using the amps gains as volume control get to the same levels with the clip indicators ever coming on. I would think that by doing this I am getting a higher line level signal, thus being the reason that the amp is not showing clipping.

joest, the clip led's indicate output level is too high. I also have a 602 and this is on page 12 of the manual. If you read the trouble shooting section the wording is misleading regarding the input levels, which can make the sound distorted at high levels. What load are you driving? Crown strongly discourages 2ohm loads.

Everything is at a 4 ohm load. Im powering my IB off one ch of one of my 602's the other ch powers my Polk CS400i center. My other 602 runs my Polk RT55i's mains, than my 402 also runs a pair of RT55i's for surround duty. The levels Im getting the clip indicators to light at are nothing I would ever listen to for long periods, just short durations when showing off my system. I have just thought I would give one of the converter boxes a try just to see if anything changed, but it is really nothing that I think is needed. I've just been curious more than anything.
