Would like some advice please from the more experienced.
I currently have each VC wired in parallel, making each driver 4 ohms. This is the first time I have used Tempests and they are the new flavour also, not the old classic model.

I've tried my Behringer A500 - spec says 230wx2 into 4 ohms but I suspect it is not really giving that when multiple bursts needed (eg U571 depth charge scene is pretty taxing) Does an OK job but found it does clip. I don't want that to happen, obviously.
So next try was a 500w rms class AB monobloc with 600VA PS and lots of capacitance. We hooked up drivers in parallel so amp was seeing 2 ohms nominal. It seemed to cope fine and didn't get v warm, but the drivers did bottom, even when the 15Hz rumble filter was in play. It did sound better than the A500.

There is another lesser model in the range - a 300w rms (400VA PS) class AB monobloc which is a little cheaper.
My conclusion so far is:
If clipping is bad for drivers, the A500 is not a good choice. I need a new amp, and one with variable phase control so one of the 300 or 500watt ones above I have committed to buy from SGR. (I will almost certainly use a 500watter for the front IB - the oscilloscope was showing 400watt when the 2 Ava 18s were really moving big time)
My question to you is:
If I can't predict when a big VLF scene may strike in a new movie, and I use the 500watter, might I damage the Tempest by overpowering?
Would the middle ground 300watter be the ideal choice?
