I have an IB that I built a few years ago consisting of two 15" Tempests ( classic I believe) which is powered from two channels of my B&K AV5000II amp. The B&K delivers 125W per channel at 8 ohms. I have been happy with the performance in my HT for music and movies but now need those two amp channels to drive a second system and want to replace the subwoofer amp with a dedicated unit.
I wonder what is a recommended low cost solution that will at least match the B&K performance ?
Should I buy plate or pro amp and EQ. I would like the auto power on function as the amp will be outside the HT room in the service room behind my HT.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Regardless of which amp you buy you should get the EQ. I'd personally go Pro amp. I've been happy with my Behringer EP2500, the EP1500 would be adequate for you but for $50 more you can get the 2500 in most cases. Either amp would be overkill for two tempests but the price doesn't get much better for a pro amp. If you go to www.partsexpress.com you can get a decent deal on either amp, that's where I got mine. The price they show is way more than what they charge, you have have them email their price to you. I think it is around $250 if I remember correctly. There is no need to turn the amp off so auto-on isn't a big deal and if it is a big deal for you it can be done with a few tricks.

The higher power, low cost, non-plate amps options are the ButtKicker amp or like Darren mentioned one of the Behringers. The BK is fanless, if you need something quiet.
For as little power as you're running, and if you don't ever plan on adding additional drivers, the Behringer A500 is a passively cooled amp that's very reasonably priced
None of the prosound amps have triggers. That's a minor inconvenience because, there are several after market devices that can be added on to create a triggered AC outlet for the amp

How does the Nady XA900 measure up to the various Behringer products and what about plate amps. Would they be as good as what I've got now ? I can place the amp in the small room I have behind my HT that is a service area for wiring etc. It would be separated from the HT by a 5/8 gyprock wall so I don't know if the fan noise of a proamp will carry that far. The small passively cooled behringer might be the ticket.

If you need or want higher power either the Nady or fan cooled Behringers are fine. We have enough anecdotal evidence (aka user feedback) to support recommending both brands.
The Nady fan is a bit quieter than the those in the Behringers. Fan mods are available for both, but putting them in a separate room will solve the problem.
The A500 is a good choice if you don't plan on adding more drivers. If a driver upgrade is in your future I'd go with one of the higher powered amps.
