Disregarding fact that Abes of Maine has a somewhat checkered past and a 15% restocking fee, it's interesting that with all the information posted on that webpage there's not a single reference to the output power of the amp. Here's the spec sheet from the Crown website www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xlsspec.htmIn addition the Crown website shows significantly lower rebate for this amp and the rebate offer having expired at the end of 2006. www.crownaudio.com/rebate.htm

Thomas, The link to the rebate form on the abes-of-maine web-site shows a currently active rebate period of March 1 through April 30th. The rebate appears to be directly from Crown. Note: A limit of 5 rebates per household. ;D www.abesofmaine.com/rebates/crownrebate.pdfJoe L.

Then Crown needs to get their butt in gear, since the link I posted is off their homepage.

Butt is apparently now in gear. Tom, the link you posted above now gets you the rebate described by the Abe's ad.

....Disregarding the fact that Abe's of Maine has a somewhat checkered past and a 15% restocking fee... No worries...I just pricematched Abe's at Musician's Friend. I ordered the XLS-402D rather than the XLS-402A as shown in mazeroth's link. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is, but MF does have the D, but not the A...Abe's has both (and the D is cheaper). Don't forget the XLR adapters.

There is a listing on ebay where the amp is 119 after rebate.

My only worry with that is if they are not authorized, will the rebate go through, and also will Crown service it? I knew I'd be safe with Musician's Friend, but if the ebay seller is authorized, that's a great deal.
EDIT: I just noticed that they're not any cheaper on ebay after you figure in shipping. Musician's Friend and Abe's both offer free shipping (although MF charged me tax, which I found a little odd considering I live in Indiana...maybe there's a B&M store somewhere in the state).

So, bottom line, this looks to be a pretty good deal for powering up a pair of Avalanche 18's ? Or is there something else out there right now that would be better pick ?

If all one has to spend is $170, these are a pretty good buy. Obviously there are reasons why Crown is forced to offer such a big rebate.

I bought a 402A while the rebate was on.
They lowered the price when the D was released. The D has a slightly higher power rating than the A did and I would guess that the rebate was put on to move out the A model inventory.
The amp had worked well and the noisy fans are not an isuue since the amp is in the basement with the manifol.
