Hi all, I've been away and built a Linkwitz Transform with a 12". Its a basic cheapy design. I used a car driver and amp in a box at 58 hz and Transformed it to get down to 20hz with apprx 19db of gain. It was a hectic couple of months and now that it works and I don't go much on it, I've come back here looking at these insane creations. Can I refer to here, www.frappr.com/?a=photo&gid=348814&pid=504439&src=flash_slidetickerI hope its the right page, it should show to 15s! I was wandering if I could go for something like this, but would like to ask, I want to use a brick wall and if I cut a slot into it, would I need to add support? In a stud wall I wouldn't think twice about it, but brick obviously means support wall, thats structural. Or should I speak to a bricky? Cheers mike

If a 'bricky' is a stone mason/brick layer, yes you should consult one, and preferably one with architectural engineering experience.

Usually you'd have to insert a lintel to tie the top of the new hole together. A lintel is usually formed to look just like a row of bricks but has a steel reinforced concrete core. Available quite cheaply in many different lengths from builders merchants. Tricky to make the slot to fit it in and then mortar around. You can't just attack a brick wall with a bolster and lump hammer. Well you can, but the results are rather unpredictable. I'd recommend you have a skilled bricky look at your problem anyway because he should have access to a low speed, water-lubricated, diamond saw. If you were to just hire a very large angle grinder with high speed diamond blade you'd make such a huge cloud of dust you'd probably visible from orbiting satellites. I've tried that but didn't like it.

Thankyou, I guess I'm stuffed again. I was going for a ceiling job, but my 8 year old boy has taken the room above as a bedroom. Floor's outta question too. Doh! How annoying. Guess I would need to find me a "Bricky". I must investigate. Thankyou good people Mike
