stores.ebay.com/Foam-N-More-INCGreetings all . I just want some opinions on these panels. I like them because they are decorative and different, but do you think they'll do the job. And maybe it'll help others who are looking for different and not expensive or time consuming.

Fiberglass insulation is a cheaper option and it's a coefficient of absorption is much better for low frequencies.
Ozone and UV other environmental nasties shorten the life span of foam. And unless covered by cloth foam is a great dust/dirt collector.

But foam isn't itchy and there are no loose fibers to cause lung disease.

HEHEHE...I think I can cover these, because I want something other than charcoal anyway. Excellent point Thomas I didn't think about the dust, but I am a clean freak so I don't worry bout that either. Chris good point also. He's always sneaking in those lil comments.

But foam isn't itchy and there are no loose fibers to cause lung disease. Well you better get rid of your SVS since it's lined with fiberglass. Obviously the idea is to use common sense when making the traps. A dust mask, gloves and protective clothing, are what's needed unil the glass is encapsulated www.recording.org/ftopict-21013.htmlThe main issue using foam is that it must be extremely thick to be effective absorbing bass. Just compare the coefficients of absorption. www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htmI have a friend who spent a minor fortune treating his listening room with Auralex foam, the effects aren't nearly as good as my very low cost DIY traps made using fiberglass. home.comcast.net/~thomasw-2/SubwooferSetupandEQpage9.html

I used a Knauff (703 equivalent) 4" and cut it at 45's on a table saw. It cuts quite nicely.

Most (nearly all) of the acoustic foam sellers on Ebay are selling bogus products. Ethan Whiner has tested many of them and rarely do they match the NRC specs, usually the specs are "borrowed" from other legit products.
