MB quart no longer makes subs(that I can tell from their website anyway). Their old RWE-352 15" subs can be had for like 130 a pop. I was thinking 4 of these may be good. Can some take a look at the specs and tell me how well suited these would be in an IB setup? www.mbquart.com/all/downloads/subwoofer/rwe_352_354.pdfI think they would be good. QMS is low and FS is a respectable 20hz. What I don't like is they didn't list the XMAX and I can't find that anywhere. Here is what the driver looks like. www.sorifarm.com/upload/model/s_img_532.gif

The specs that are given look good so far, but you would need to know the Xmax and SD. Assuming an SD of 820, it should at least 13mm Xmax for that price range, else buy something with known specs for IB. If you gamble and they do not work out in an IB you can always put them in a small closed box for an F3 of 38 Hz.

NM I cant read good. As pointed out though, without knowing Xmax this is a gamble. The price is just so darn cheap thoug to make it tempting, but if it only has 5MM of travel one way then it isn't going to move much. Thanks for the response guys.

I have been in contact with MB Quart about the PWE 352/354s. Xmax is 8.9mm. (I have 4). Altho, IB is a possibility with these, I am really worried about the backwave in the attic driving the neighbor's nuts. I may just place these in some large sonotubes for the HT (or do a transmission line- been reading- looks promising, but BIG!) and do a small IB in the den using some Dayton IB15s in the space under the stairs. I dunno. Any suggestions or thoughts (especially on the attic backwave issue)? I'm open to anything- we are moving into a new home in 3 weeks and the wife already knows that she has no say as to what goes on in the HT room Mike

The neighbors usually aren't a problem. Attics are insulated and whatever sound escapes, it's attenuated at a rate of -6dB for every doubling of distance from the source.
That being said the MB Quart Xmax is too low for an IB, you'll oil can the VC's with the first big transient.

I agree with Thomas. The backwave loses a lot of energy at the attic boundaries and across the distance to your neighbor's house and again crossing the boundary into his house. There seems to be very few cases where this is a real issue.

Well now that I know the Xmax, I am glad I stayed away from them. I thought the 13mm of Xmax on the Rockfords I chose was too low as it is.
