Hello, I am new to the forum and to DIY subwoofers. I am trying to get a few things straight. Are there any advantages to Dual Voice Coil drivers compared to Single Voice Coil ones? I have looked through the threads and haven't seen this question addressed. I am interested in advantages or disadvantages as they apply to IB operation, not just performance in general. My second question concerns amplifier power and number of drivers. I have looked through the threads and FAQs and found generalizations saying that IB subs require less power to drive. Is there some formula or calculation that can be used to estimate the power required to get a driver to its linear excursion limits? There is a link at the bottom of the FAQ page to a site to estimate the SPL of a given set-up, but that link is down (at least I can't get anywhere on it). Thank you in advance for any advice or links.

DVC give more flexibility in wiring the load, and the ability to use RDO operation.
If you use a box modeling program like WinISD Pro or Unibox, set the box size to the largest enclosure possible. Then you can experiment with differing power levels and see what happens to the excursion at various frequencies.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but what is RDO operation?

Sorry, I just saw it in the FAQ page. I have to remember to stop asking dumb questions at 2 am
