Good stuff. But did you try all four drivers at once? ;D chrisbee, I was going to just for fun but didn't want to try to wire 8ohm and dual 2ohm together. I played both sets with nothing covering the dead holes, the non powered speakers move but don't contribute much. If anyone has something else they would like me to try let's here it.

Any chance you have any Klippel data availible for these?
any distortion measurements?

Brady,
Was that response a joke? Are you implying that you have one of the few Dumax machines in the US?
I am sorry for the confusion, but I was asking the designers here for their input on this.
I do believe that a build house/designer such as this one would have the access to this.
Sorry for the confusion. Jim

Hehehe ... sorry for the mixup Brady It is a very nice laser-based mechanism that will give you very detailed readouts of the driver's properties/linearity/symmetry .. and most of all .. its inherent distortions.

You still looking for testers then? How many drivers is it you're looking to test?
I have easy access to my manifold and the ability to do just about any manifold configuration (tossing in a new manifold is a piece of cake), plus measurement equipment and a very picky ear. I'd be open to doing some tests for you.

Please e-mail me if your interested in test driving 2 18". Thanks Darrel [ftp]hawthorne@hawthorneaudio.com[/ftp]

A pair of 18's will be fine. I'll send you a note when I get home, hoping I remember. or you can ping me at the address provided. I'll probably have to whip up a different manifold but that's no trouble at all. C

Well - drivers showed up. I'm a little surprised they don't come shipped with something to keep them off the box-bottom as there's a little scuffing evident on the cone/surround. The cone is far softer and less stiff than I would have expected but with a very stiff inverted center cap. Springy suspension, not overly stiff. Will definitely be interesting to see how they shape up.
I have some work to do till I can fire them up and do any listening/measuring (including either adapting my currentmanifold or doing another for these).

These drivers are the deepest drivers Emenence has ever made, thus ,no current production box was deep enough. Darrel

That explains why the boxed up drivers won't sit flat on the floor. C

It has been a nuthouse - I have not been able to acquire the necessary materials for a manifold. I may, however, see about sneaking out to nab some. Well, not sneaking, but... This weekend is still packed with happenings, but I am hopeful. I was thinking about this on the way home, feeling bad that I've not had much occasion to do anything beyond a visual inspection.

Is it a bad thing if an 18" driver doesn't look all that big?
;D

It's only bad for your wallet. EDIT: That guy is shaking his finger "no," and not flipping you off right?

So, yes indeed. Finally. It has been two things after another (or something) but I got these set up and ran through some tracks quickly. Plugged them into the same hole in the wall (new manifold) and same 240W plate amp (with rumble filter dropped to ~8Hz) and stuck in some discs. There is no question that I get more out of these than the Dayton 15's that I had, though the step up to 18" may be a lot of that. I can push them to the point where my mains (cheap) distorty horribly, and they're not seeming to have much in the way of trouble yet. The room can't handle it. Solid, seems very clean indeed. It is difficult to tell because I am picking up room induced noises with these where they are. Next will be some more picky SQ experiments with these dipole and in-room as well as (hopefully) some measurements. My HTPC is currently on loan, however, so we'll see how I work that. C
