Hello all. I am very new to this so please forgive my ignorance. I am spooling up to build my first IB. My problem is with driver selection. There doesn't seem to be very many available at this time. I want a good 15" driver to install in a 4 driver manifold. The Dayton IB385 was my choice until I was told the Qts is to high. At .65 is that to high? What is a good gauge to use when selecting a driver, Qts or Ebp? Trying to stay under $150.00 a driver, are there any available at this time? Clean, clear, hard bass is my goal. Waiting 2 months for production is not high on my list either. What is there available now?

If you haven't seen this comparison chart it can help you get an idea of good TS parameters for IB: www3.sympatico.ca/bonaz/IB-Sub/IBdrv-01.htmThe Dayton drivers are on the above list. Many of the drivers vary from the recommended .5 QTS that Thomas suggests. I look at XMAX, QTS, FS. From reading the FAQ etc I tried to find drivers with QTS of or close to .5, XMAX above 18... and I stayed with the recommended list above. Your options in that price range are limited. Darrel at Hawthorne Audio has a new 15" driver that he may be going into production with that fits the budget or the Parts Express drivers you mentioned. John at Acoustic Elegance is still a few months out from what I've heard on his $100 IB driver. Besides those I'm not aware of any others in that price range at the moment.

There's a $10 difference between the PE IB15 and the DVC15. With the DVC 15 it's "Q" is low 0.38. But it has dual VC's, so one can experiment with various "Q"s by putting an L-pad on one VC.
There should be several new driver options available in the upcoming months. So if you're not in a hurry wait and see wait develops.
Darrel's drivers should be a very good choice in this price range and the "Q" is dead on.

Thanks for the help. So are we agreeing to wait instead of settling for the Dayton? I am not familiar or even understand the significance of dual voice coils but I would consider the DVC 15 if it is a good option. I am not opposed to waiting if I will get a much better driver for the money. So how do I get information on Darrel's drivers?
