Check it out. Chad is auctioning off Atlas', Avalanche's and four of the new 18" Havocs! If you have older Ascendant drivers and want to increase your displacement this may be your last shot at it!

It hasn't started. A link to it will be on the Ascendant website next week.

The sale of eight Atlas 12's has already started on fleabay. Seller = ascendantaudio. The car audio crowd has also been notified of this and there's quite a buzz.

I grabbed 4 of the 12's. Decent price, and I think I'm starting small with my IB . I realize they aren't the end-all be-all of subs, but I have a feeling that 4 in a nice IB setup will be a good step up from my SVS CS-Ultra.

Thanks, but I'm starting to wonder if I should have waited and gotten something with a bit more beef. *sigh* Impulse buying will kill me.

The Atlas's are good woofs. But to be fair, you've already got a heck of a subwoofer with the CS-Ultra. My rule of thumb is that a sealed or IB sub needs about 3x the displacement of a low-tuned vented sub to keep up with it near the tuning point.
Your Atlas's have a combined total of 6.9L. So if the CS-Ultra woofer displaces somewhere around 2.3L then they're going to be very close. I think 2.3L is probably about right for the Ultra, though it certainly depends on which revision you have.
So I'm thinking you won't really get much more output in the lowest octaves. But in the upper octaves, where the IB is not excursion limited, you could gain a lot. Plus there's the "sound quality" factor, which is very subjective. And one of the most over-looked advantages of IB - the stealthy install (a.k.a. getting rid of the funky black cylinder).
You'll have to make this decision based on your personal goals. My biggest recommendation is to measure room response before you build an IB. And #2 in this case is build in room for expansion ... in some form or another.
