Setting up a new HT. I will be using a IB setup and am deciding wich drivers to use. My cash limit is about $1500 for equipment, pluss cables and structure. The room is about 2,300 cubic feet. The room will be 100% HT usage no music. Need the subs to play up to a 24db 80hz LP, and mesh well with mains cutting off at 24db at 80-90hz.
I will most likely go with a Behranger ep2500 for the amp and a dsp1124 for EQ.
So, drivers. The Mach5 mj18 driver looks pretty interesting. If I went with them it would be 8 of them in 2 V baffles on the "front" wall of the room behind the main speakers. I'm not looking for all out SPL I just want a good solid low end (15-17hz). If I went with the current 8ohm 18's running the amp 2 channel that should give about 300 watts to each driver (2ohm).
Other choice would be something like TC sounds or soundsplinter depending on driver it would come out to 2-4 15" drivers. The Dayton RF HQ 15" drivers look pretty interesting also could probably get 6 of those on this budget.
O the back side of the IB is a room about 3,000 cu feet and has an open crawl way that is 2 feet tall by 15 feet wide and goes out a long way. So total area is much larger then 3K.

Marks's out of stock on the mj18"s and it will be a while before more are available. Look at the .Q18" from www.ficaraudio.com. Four of those and a EP2500 would only be slightly more than your budget and provide a ton of displacement. BTW the cost for wire and building material is minimal

Those do look interesting. Have you heard them before, or could point me to a review on them for home or IB use? I will do some looking on my own as well of course.
Yeah, I am not into the $uber$ cables. Can't tell a difference in 12-2 Romex and $200 a foot silver speaker cables.
The HT is beeing placed in a very long room. I will be building a wall to divide it thus making the 2300cf and 3000cf rooms. The wall will be the mount for the IB array.

that is for sure! I cant wait to get 4 of these installed in my IB.
Scott over at ficaraudio is simply awesome to deal with, very helpful in make changes to the 18s for IB (Q near .5 and lower F).
btw, I did buy 4 MJ18s originally too, they are still new in boxes in my garage I just couldnt resist the displacement of the Q18s.
