I currently have two tempest 15's in a manifold and want to add two more. Since I have attic access, could I simply mount these between the joists with the driver faces in the room? It was hell on earth trying to squeeze the manifold and myself between the rafters in my attic and don't want to do that again. Also, if it were feasible to do this, what sort of bracing would be recommended? I was thinking of mounting the sub on a 3/4" piece of mdf, cutting a circular hole in the drywall to fit the driver diameter and then either srewing into the joists, using all thread and another mdf board in the attic to sandwich the joists or both. Can anyone help?

If the new drivers are placed within a 1/4 wave length of the old ones, you'll get +3dB from acoustic (mutual coupling), and another +3dB if the amp doubles it's output with the added load.
I never advocate squeezing the manifold between the joists, it's much easier to place it on top of them and seal the ends with blocks.
If you're talking about getting it into the attic many people take it up in sections, then glue and screw it together up there.
If adding more holes to the ceiling isn't an issue then surface mounting the new driver will work.

Kingdaddy,
Can you tell us about your speakers in your photos? Did you make those? They are very unique looking.

Yes, all speakers in my house (18 total) are DIY and of my own design. My latest project is the center channel found in the link I provided. The mains and center follow the idea of minimum baffle and tapered deep enclosures to minimize the back wave reflection, plus complete adjustability for time alignment and what not for experimenting reasons, I'm wacky that way.
