Other than being on the expensive side, does anybody have any thoughts (good or bad) on the PE Dayton HPSA1000. It is going to be driving 2 Fi IB 18's at sub-reference levels.

Other than being on the expensive side, does anybody have any thoughts (good or bad) on the PE Dayton HPSA1000. It is going to be driving 2 Fi IB 18's at sub-reference levels. it's a class D amp for starters, it uses square waves instead of sine waves for output, meaning higher distortion and unfaithfull reproduction of audio signal, they are often used because using a square wave uses far less energy because the amp goes from off to on for the signal instead of building signal strength in a sine wave which is a curve, not simply, max one way and max the otherway... these kind of amps are popular in car audio due to low power consumption compaired to to a class B or A/B amp and is cheaper to use because the internals can be mostly digital and therefore consist of simple, compact microchips. They may sound ok for car use but i would be hesitent about putting them to a IB use simply because of the clarity and speed of an IB are nigh instant, even at these low frequencies i would dare to say that a digital on/off signal would inject audible anomalies and distortion into the signal that would otherwise be left out in a standard class B amp lies plate amps also tend to be rather on the skimpy side as far as quality and usually will have alot of problems aka hum and misc noises, hence the reason they are offered so cheap as compaired to more quality and expensive seeming options and you can easily get more power with a Behringer EP2500 and a sub controller for slightly more in price as the HPSA1000 but with way more features and controls, the EP2500 is around 300.00 and the controller is 100.00 from Elemental Designs. "My Project" section (1 sub-board) If you're building an IB or just pondering one, start a thread here. Post all your questions in that thread. NOTE: it's okay if the questions posted in your thread contain topics that would normally go in one of the other forums. Please don't duplicate posts/questions on multiple forums.
