Need some help - humm and line level

I have finally gotten my DSP and ep1500 together....
Of course I have the dreaded hum......after going over and over the connections, only the cheater plug fixes the hum.
Next, if I connect the receiver directly to the ep1500, the level is much too low.....
Will the CleanBox take care of both?
