I was at the garden center yesterday and noticed a wide range of easily-affordable, decorative, cast iron grills.
Grills of roughly 24" x 15" were a common size. Others grills were smaller with some being square, half round or round. Quite a number of different designs were being offered.
Knowing the difficulty of obtaining affordable and attractive grills I thought I'd pass this idea on.
If the grill is going to be subject to heavy foot traffic it might be worth running a steel bar or two across under the grill for extra support. I'd judge the thickness of the larger grills as somewhere around 3/8".
Prices varied between $15 and $40 (equiv) depending on size.
Do a Google image search for <cast iron mats> for typical examples.
