I came across this site, unfortunately it's only an option for people with deep pockets but it looks like these guys do some quality work www.rivesaudio.com/services/servframe.html Under "Instructions for use" link on this site a good description on how to evaluate what room treatment are needed is provided, even if you can't afford their services

Hi Dave, Could I offer you my humble viewpoint on room treatments? It seems to me there are two paths you can go down (wasn't that from Stairway to Heaven?) ;D You could pay someone with the relevant experience, considerable amounts of money to advise you or do it for you, or you can spend the time on research and do it yourself. I have chosen the latter. I believe you have already undertaken some research yourself, and indeed provided me with a link in an earlier discussion on this topic. Rives, do indeed carry out some fine work, if you can afford it. My approach has been to read all I can on the subject, to better understand where to direct my efforts and then have a go. No doubt I will make mistakes, but I only intend doing incremental improvements and evaluating the results as I go. As we speak, I am in the process of making some bass traps, courtesy of titch's link, for two corners in my room. Total cost about $100. I also have four of Thomas's sound absorbing panels that I am playing around with. I do realise that I do not have the WAF constraints that others have, and they can be made to look a bit more tasteful than mine I think that treatments are very under rated in terms of bang for the bucks and do not always get the attention they deserve. Any efforts you make in this department will yield results far beyond the costs. Sing out if you want any links to sites that I have found useful, and I will try and post them. I have never posted a link yet, but I think I know how to do it I am on a steep learning curve, just like you, on this topic, but it is very satisfying when one stumbles across an improvement. Cheers, Jim.

Thanks Titch some excellent links.................it's definitely getting me thinking. I've always put room treatment in the too hard basket but integrating it so it's not obvious might be option.

Once you get into it it aint that bad. I would start with checking out building 2 bass traps (the superchunks) in your front corners and getting your first reflections for your mains and center channel taken care of first. Just from doing this alone will make a BIG difference in your room. If you want I can give you some links to where guys made theirs and came out real nice. I think your heading in the right direction if your looking at building your own treatments for your room. You get the satisfaction of building it yourself and you make it cheaper on yourself too. cheers
