www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18773701#post18773701So apparently we should have just built a bunch of sealed subs. The box doesn't have any effect on sound. There is no air-spring effect, or issue with sound inside the enclosure trying to pass through the driver. Any loss of extension can just be countered with a Marchand Bassis. These are not my beliefs of course. You can thank "boss" o bass.

I hope I didn't cramp your style? Do they ever stay on topic? What on earth would they do if IBs became flavour of the month? How do they tolerate each other let alone the "odd" visitor? How do they cope with the constant noise of self-aggrandisement? What has Thorazine to do with trapping your bubbles under glass plates on top of your drivers? ;D

The box lovers have pretty much taken over that thread.
They contend that the box does not alter the sound, no matter how small it is. The smaller the box, the more amp and LT curve you need to "cancel" the roll-off.
The discussion is as stunted as when comparing ported to sealed subs. The ported "people" refuse to accept that the port has any downside. The sealed "people" cite group delay and impulse response, to which the ported say, "poppycock! doesn't matter or exist!".
I for one would love to regain 3' of depth in my theater where my IB currently is, but I know from hearing multiple sealed sub arrays that it won't sound as good.
There probably isn't any point trying to convince people that IB is great. Smart people will investigate the idea and make their own decision.

If EQ and matched SPL were the only important elements, one could take a 6" 2-way bookshelf speaker and make it sound like a Magnepan MG20.1. Thing is that's not going to occur. Missing from the discussion are other variables such as transfer function, which IMO is just as important as matched SPL and EQ. And now I retire from the discussion here and the one on AVS, I have better things to do with my life ....
