So, I've been thinking about were to place an IB in my basement... and I had a creative thought. My basement is comprised of my HT area - and the other half is unfinished (HVAC, washer/dryer/etc). However, in my HT area, I have a closet.... It's mostly just long term storage and a water meter - I rarely get into it because it's partially obscured by a screen wall -- w/speakers behind it. So, my question is, could I build an IB array in the closet - and use the floor joists above to couple it to the unfinished basement? It would basically be a medium size box (closet) coupled (via ceiling) to the "infinite" box (unfinished basement). I imagine that it's going to come down to the surface area of the openings in the ceiling joists and whether it constricts/colors the sound? I'm thinking surface area of the openings in the ceiling would be 6ft (depth of closet) x .75ft (8" tall floor joists) = 4.5 sq ft.... So, closet is roughly 117 cuft, ceiling volume between closet and unfinished area is 31 cuft, and unfinished basement is 1300 cuft. A crude not to scale image is attached. Closet is top left, with IB array in the front, orange/yellow represents IB volume (with the blue being the floor joists.... so for that area -- it would NOT be the whole height, only the ceiling. Does this sound crazy? Attachments:

The idea is unrestricted free space behind the woofers. So using ceiling joist space as tubes to connect the closet with the unfinished area is a no go.
You maybe able to use the closet by itself or there maybe other options
Do you have photos of the basement?

I think that the volume of the closet is too small... I should measure it just to double check. I'll get some pics. I can still put an IB manifold or array in the unfinished part of the basement - just a little concerned about the WAF. I actually have a 6-8cuft sealed sub underneath the stairs -- which I could replace with a manifold -- but have read that behind the seating is the worst choice for IB placement.
