Hi folks!
My name is Jon and I'm new here. I have been considering utilizing a space under my stairs as an IB rear room. I have just over 100 ft3 to play with. I've read through the FAQ's section, but was wondering what you folks think about using an IB in tandem with dipole mains? The space I'm considering would allow sound to exit from the left side wall behind my mains. I have a laundry room behind and to the left of the listening position, but I read in FAQ's that this is not optimal. I'm wondering if there are time smear or cancellation issues associated with subs firing sideways across the back of dipoles? My listening spot is about 12 feet away from where the opening would be. I have several reasons for this attempt.
#1, Sub will be out of the room and in the wall, increasing space in my home.
#2, I can make a simple baffle that will cover the opening under the stairs and I can still open it if need be.
#3, I can hide 2 noisy (fans) amps back there with the subs.
#4, I have 2 JBL 4645 cinema subs loaded with 2241h drivers, but they are HUGE and will not fit well in my room. They are the closest I can imagine coming to an IB.
I'm mostly a music guy. I don't need to get the response down terribly low and I'm not trying to win any SPL awards either, so I'm considering 2 Fi 15's, as my space seems optimal for this. Any suggestions, warnings, advice etc. is greatly appreciated!

I have a line array IB of four 18" drivers behind my dipole mains. In theory you would think that there would be some cancellation around the crossover region but I've measured the combined response and seen no issues.

Good deal. Thanks a lot guys! The spot I'm thinking of using is the ONLY spot available, unless I go outside. I was going to try and make the opening as close to the floor as possible, unless there is some reason not to. After a bit more searching, I found some Dayton drivers at parts express that seem to fit the bill even better than the Fi's I was looking at and very affordable as well. I'll be back when I get close to finishing. Thanks again!
