Hello,
Complete newbie, but read thru most available info and threads. Still torn though, should I attempt to use 4x18" Fi IB3s in a 459 cubic feet (false wall) enclosure, or should I stay with 15"s.
The HT is a part of a large room in the basement (the room is around 1500 sqft, with 9ft ceilings).
Thanks.

The 10x vas is a rough guideline. If you have 459 cubes for the backspace (for example that's approx 8'x14'x4'), for four Fi 18's, that shouldn't be any problem.
Are you saying the HT listening area that the IB will be serving is around 13k cubes? That's quite a space, you'll certainly need the 18's.
Any other details?

The basement is about 2400 sqf and about 900 sq feet of it is divided into rooms. The rest is basically one large room (about 35x45) with a 19 feet x 3 feet false wall built paralell with 35 ft end to accomodate the subwoofers (and to hide some mechanicals). The room is 8-9 feet tall all around.
Will have a projector about 15-17 foot from the false wall using the wall as the screen. The seats will probaly be about 13-15 feet from the screen (depending on the projetcor we end up getting.) I was thinking of using the EP2500 to drive the 4 Fi IB3 18".
Hopefully it will be enough, because I really have no other to place the woofers and I don't think a conventional subwoofer would be big enough (something that I can afford that is..)

I was thinking of using the EP2500 to drive the 4 Fi IB3's Hopefully it will be enough, because I really have no other to place the woofers and I don't think a conventional subwoofer would be big enough (something that I can afford that is..) Make no mistake, once installed and EQ'd, 4x IB3-18's will likely be the most incredible subwoofer system you've ever heard. When one examines commercial box subwoofer products, vs. IB's, and really looks at what's attainable at a given price point, there is simply no comparison. At roughly $1500, for four drivers, power amp, an EQ, and some simple building materials, a well thought out IB destroys any commercial box sub(s) out there for anything close to the price. Then, given that the sheer output and extension can't be compared, the icing on the cake is the audible characteristics of a properly optimized IB.....simply high resolution bass. When I posted that you'll certainly need the 18's, that doesn't mean that they will barely be enough. Four, aptly powered-high excursion 18" drivers is enough for a residential environment. We do tend to get carried away with higher and higher driver counts, etc.,ie 8x18"s in a home. However realistically, four 18's will blow you away, and keep you happy for a long time. Add in the value and the quality of bass, it's simply an unbeatable option, if one can accommodate it. Good luck
