Hi All,
I have 8 FiCar IB318's set up in an IB arrangement. 4 in front wall, and 2 each in each rear corner. My plan was to power them with my 240VAC Sanway FP14000 (LG FP14000 clone). The front four off one channel and the rear four off the other channel. There was zero regards to enough power due to the amps output. I haven't even used my new theater build yet due to working out several minor bugs, one of which is the Sanway Amp, just test tones and clips to this point. The Sanway developed an issue with the B-chnl prematurely clipping. Got that issue resolved with a new octocoupler IC swap. With less than an hour of testing after the swap the Sanway then developed an issue where the B-chnl instantly goes into MUTE mode upon power up. Needless to say I'm getting irritated with the amp at this point.
I have started my research all over again for a 2U solution for my 8 IB318 power needs.
I think I have narrowed the search down to one of two Behringer iNuke amps.
Either the NU4-6000 ($349) or the NU-12000 ($899). I can always rewire my outlet for 120 if need be.
The NU-12000 would be the obvious choice but the NU4-6000 is 2.5x's less $$$. Big difference. The NU4-6000 is simply a pair of NU-3000 sharing a single chassis. I can't find the RMS specs on the NU-12000, but I did manage to find the RMS SPECS of the NU-3000 which are as follows :
RMS
Stereo
8 Ω per channel, stereo 280 W
4 Ω per channel, stereo 550 W
2 Ω per channel, stereo 1100 W
Bridged mono
8 Ω 1100 W
4 Ω 2200 W
With the above info it appears that the much more affordable NU4-6000 could deliver 2200W to each quad of IB318's in my system (assuming I wire each quad in series-parallel for a 4ohm load). Each IB318 is rated at 550W.
So it seems on paper that the $349 iNuke NU4-6000 would be a perfect amp for 8 FiCar IB318's........yes? I can then remove the flakey FP14000 and replace it with an NU4-6000.
Thoughts, comments please!
