The FAQ says that if you can't do 10x Vas, but can do 4x Vas, then go ahead and build 4x Vas. However, it says to use standard box designs techniques when doing this. So I'm a bit confused. Does this mean the Vd is 4x Vas? Or does this mean to compute Vd using 4x Vas (Vd = 4x Vas / alpha)?
If doing a 4x Vas design, what alpha do you use? Do you use the alpha associated with the Qts of the driver, or the desired Qtc (since IB is Qtc=Qts)?

The statement has nothing to do with calculating anything. If you're building a 4X Vas box that's it's internal volume
The statement actually refers to using construction techniques for the box similar to those used in the building a free standing sub.
ie, thick walls with adequate bracing to avoid wall flex. It should be stuffed with damping material.
