I am converting my garage into a media room about 4500ft^3. I have Two old Shiva EBS subs. Should I build an IB sub or stay with the Shivas or use both? How would I use both? I have a Marantz AV7005 processor with one sub out and Audyssey MultEQ XT My Shivas look good so I don't want to kill them off unless they are not helping.

I would use both. I have 8 x 15" subs built into a wall behind my screen as an IB, and I have 4 x 12" Shivas as nearfield subs directly behind my front row. The Shivas add a bit more tactile feel. I had to turn them way down because I still want the bass to sound like it is coming from in front of me, but they add to the overall punch. I use a miniDSP to balance and EQ the subs.

How large is your room? So if I was to use both I could buy a MiniDSP and put that between my processor and sub amps? I was hoping two 18" subs in an IB would be sufficient. You are making me feel insecure!

Hi
Sorry for the delay in responding my browser didn't update showing your thread...
In this day and age most wouldn't consider a pair of 12" subs adequate for a dedicated HT.
Depending on the size of the mains, one possibility would be to use the Shivas as midbass modules
I think a pair of 18"s would be fine for a converted garage

Yes at the current pricing I don't know a better value than the Fi 18"s

You are making me feel insecure! My home theater takes up half my 22' x 32' basement, but there are no hard partitions. My brother was over a couple of weeks ago and we watched Ford v Ferrari. There is a scene where a plane flies low overhead, and you could feel the vibration sweep through the room. With a cement floor, it takes a lot to feel the bass.

Would my Adcom 555II amp be sufficient to power a twin Fi IB3 IB? If not, what is the popular value option currently among DIYers?
What Ohm option would I choose when ordering (Single 2 or Single 4)?

Sure a 555 will drive the IB
Get a pair of 4ohm drivers

Thanks, I ordered two just now. I was thinking of building it similar to onesquin, ibsubwoofers.proboards.com/thread/1553Any suggestions about where to put it in my attic? Here are some pics of my converted garage.

Yes that's a good thread to follow
I think you should do a floor crawl with the manifold to compare various places before moving the manifold to the ceiling. That's because the alcove will likely create a big bass null

That's because the alcove will likely create a big bass null I do not know what you mean by "floor crawl". I would guess that means building the manifold, attaching woofers, hooking up to system and running sweeps in different places to find the flattest response?
