I have had a pair of AE IB15H drivers for about ten years now. Very enjoyable and a great addition to my diy hobby. I recently noticed less output and found one of the cones frozen. I cannot move it a millimeter by hand. I figure this is not good, but on what scale? I am guessing somewhere between quite costly and toast!
How do I check if it is ruined? What did I do or not do to cause this? I don't think I drove them too hard although I really wouldn't know the signs and want to avoid damaging more speakers.
Thanks, Trent

Get in there as close as possible and inspect whatever various views you have of the voice coil.
You should be able to see it from more than one viewpoint.
It's either burnt and de-laminated, or perhaps something got stuck down in the gap ... maybe that's less likely but certainly possible.
Use two good flashlights, get in there and see. Check continuity and resistance if you can (cheap but workable multimeters are under $10).
I've had luck using my phone to capture voice coil images.
Good luck

It sounds like a toasted voice coil. There's a chance JohnJ can rebuild it. If he can might consider getting the other one rebuilt at the same time.

I checked the terminals with a meter and it shows 5.5 ohms. Checking the other working driver, it also register 5.5 ohms. I do not see any foreign objects in or a round the coil, but it is fairly dusty.
It is impressive how it won’t budge even a millimeter!

That the VC won't move indicates it's come out of the gap or is frozen in the gap. Either way it points to a recone as the way to fix the problem.
Question to ask JohnJ is whether to not he has the parts needed to fix the driver. If he does you might consider getting the working one rebuilt as well given it's age

Just got my rebuilt sub back. 1 woofer was good during the interim, but the pair working together is wow! I have an amp question though. I have the two 15s running 4ohm mono on an iNuke 1000. Specs say it should be putting out 1000 watts. Is this a good/correct/optimal power source? I cannot remember exactly how I chose this amp. I am sure price had something to do with it.

Sure that amp will be fine.
Glad things are up and running!
