New to forum, and IB leave I found a new home. Installed IB 15 {4] horizontal in ceiling a while back. Well aware of the no-no about horizontal mounting. Stryke,[ they where then] when I spoke to them about this could not give a give me a approximation how much and how soon the sag would be nor how long before the sag became a problem. Just All guarantees where void if I do this. Fair enough The drivers have been in the ceiling about 6 mo inactive. It took me this long to get back to the project. I had to resurrect a Peavey bass guitar amp and figure and build a L-pad to match consumer line to 20mv instrument in. on and on. All is very well thank you, so far. Some friends claim they get car sick if I have to much gain on LFE. I think it's the ice cubes at 12.5hz. The question I have is, with this vast wealth of experience here, how long do we figure I have before I have to spring another $400 assuming their still avail at that price? I, just curious, measured the cone depth sitting vertical then horizontal and after 6 mo of idle in the ceiling with a depth micro and I could not see ..002 diff. After about 1mo of HARD abuse I still see nothing. Do we think Stryke is being overly worried or are we talking generations or worse yet, it just one day drops out. Frank the bear paws

IIRC the issue was with horizontal mounting+major excursion in a large enclosure.
Watch it on the volume knob and things should be ok.

There's no way to answer you question since you're the first and possibly only person to mount them that way.
When it does become a problem you don't need to buy new drivers. Just return the drivers you have to John for reconing.

TNX IHREEVES; Good site, should help a bunch. Now I just have to find the spec sheet, I have a tendency to be not well organized, or go to John's site and get them. ThomasW; Really? Well I have been known to be contrary. The reason I did it that way, even though I could have built them into a sky lited shed roof area that is in back of the seating area, I wanted to set them spaced adjacent 3 walls, one right in front of the TV and the forth above the "main" seat {mine] the Floor joist cavities run horizontal to the room and extend into an adjacent room. The cavities have 22 cu feet free air space. That was close enough to 10Xvas to try it. I saw this arrangement on a speaker company web site ,Which I'll post when I find it again. Never mind, you already know it as Harman. Granted they suggested sealed, on wall, the theory being its eliminates bass modes in the corners but as a contrarian, well you know. Basically the 4 drivers form a 8' X 12' rectangle. The long way with the seating. Each driver has its own cavity to play in. So to speak. I don't get booming, have no bass traps and the pressure at the seats through out the room are so close the SPL meter can't see the difference.Happy happy!! Along with my three 36 [18+18] driver home-brew line arrays [ one horiz. as a center] I could not have asked for more. I just may stop experimenting. Of course my motto is " if it ain't broke keep fixing it till it is". Cyrus? 10-4 on the knob but what fun is that? You don't sleep either? I posted at 1:00 am but had not set the profile time yet. TNX again and I'll be lurking. IB Leave. Bear.

So where are your pics of all this good stuff? It doesn't officially exist until there are pics.

I'm still in the stone ages as far as the computer or digital camera goes. I still have to hand crank it to get on line. ;D We had a hoe-down the day we got cable high speed. Seriously, I will make an effort to do that on a geek friends computer. Bear

Just did the Adire Audio calculations using John's published specs. It came to 6.2% which according to Adire's site is over the 5% allowable for up or down mounting. I welcome a double check of my calcs. The O Audio 15" comes out to 3.72% so they would seem to ok and more XMAX albiet @ 2X the price.

No need to recheck anything, that's what was calculated on the old forum when this topic first came up.

Would it help to alternate between magnet-up and magnet-down at intervals to balance any long term assymetry?
It seems logical to have a simple method to accurately monitor any long-term cone sag to avoid unecessary work.
You could be the cult's honorary (unpaid) cone sag monitor. ;D
