Hi .. This is not woofer question, but the principles are the same. While modeling small mid bass speakers for OB arrays I noticed Xmax severely limits listening levels as slope is not very steep. Even increasing the driver Q for steeper slope does not help. Do all such speakers need high pass filters? Or, is -20dB down where the response curve crosses Xmax slope sufficient to protect the driver. No electronic EQ's if I can help it. Info will help me decide on IB's for bass, also. Zene

They're going to try to reproduce the lower frequencies unless protected by a crossover.
