I read on the Acoustic Elegance site that the proposed xmax for the new AE IB15's is 18mm which I believe is about 3.5-4mm better than than last year's model.
If that is true would it pose a problem adding 4 of these to my existing drivers?
I'm guessing that I will have to sell my current 4 and get 8 of the new drivers if the proposed specs become reality.

I think there are several TS parameters that will be changing as well. The VAS is hugely different.

Worry about this when the drivers are actually shipping...

Thomas
You mentioned in another thread that the early AE IB15s had a polycone.
Do you know when this changed to something else and what material was used in later drivers?
The reason I ask is because my own drivers have cones which appear to be made of thin, smooth, black plastic.
Does this make them early examples?
Thanks

Thanks That smooth black plastic is polypropylene (aka poly), they're all made with that.

G'day eeyore
I think it would be foolish to send any money to AE Speakers at this point. I payed for an order 12 months ago and have still seen no sign of it. At the 10 month mark, I requested a refund and have heard nothing since. The chances of blowing your money are very high if you intend to deal with this company. They show some of the worst customer service in the DIY audio world, I can't understand why anyone would still give them the time of day. There are many better options available now.
You have been warned.

I should just put a bid in for John's equipment/company to get the ball rolling.
Kidding of course.... ;D

Ditto what Mr. Cowan said. I love the product John puts out but the customer service and professionalism is non-existant.
I can't imagine he'll be in business much longer, customer service is far too important.

At this point who knows what's happening? I know after a short stint with AE, Deon left to go work at TC-Sounds. That means John's back to being a one-man- show, if the curtain ever rises again...

Well, John is still actively working. I recall seeing his name on a thread not long ago talking about getting parts for a lathe.
Best, Mark

Well if anyone is indeed thinking of upgrading to the new AE IB15's and wants to sell me one of their old 8 ohm IB15's I would be interested as I have one that shipped to me broken.
Of course this all relates back to customer service because if John would respond to my emails/calls maybe I wouldn't still have a broken driver..

It wouldn't surprise me if he is full of OEM-based work. Let's face it, OEM would be the bread and butter; Internet sales would be gravy and second on the list at best.
Still doesn't excuse the no refund, no support stuff tho...
Best, Mark

Doubt he's doing that kind of work, he can't even get test drivers built, I was waiting to beta test drivers for him, he asked me if I'd like to do that as he wanted my thoughts on the drivers but he couldn't even get that together. I waited 6 months but he never got it together.
Personally, I'll never own another AE product again. The lack of customer service, sporadic availability (that's being generous), and other things I'll keep to myself make it an easy decision to go with another brand.
It would be one thing if he just stopped doing business and said I'll be back in 18 months but he's leading people on and really creating a terrible reputation.
I loved my AV15 but it ain't worth the pain if you have problems or want to buy another driver.

What I find unforgivable is that he has easy access to any number of forums (including his own) where he could keep the "great unwashed" in instant touch with his activities. (if any)
A few words of type is all it takes to quash rumours and rebuild any hope of a return to normal service.
He is (alas) hoist by his own petard.
Absence (in business) does not make the heart grow fonder. Not until several decades have passed when the product may become of interest to antique dealers and collectors. I doubt this applies.
