I have a quick question... If I am looking to build a floor-mounted IB that vents into a crawl-space, would it be best to go with 4 of those Canadian (Mach 5) drivers or two of these FI SSD18" drivers? I want the best bang-for-the-buck, but I also want good fidelity. Who would know? No one has any of the Fi drivers up and running. One could conclude from the price and the construction qulaity that the Fi would be the superior driver Nothing, just make sure any amp you buy is happy seeing 2 ohm loads, all the time. If you need to save $50 get the EP1500. If $50 isn't a big deal get the bigger amp. For years there have been links on the main FAQ page to online calculators that show how to wire up drivers.

Should I assume the Europower amps like seeing 2 ohm loads all the time?
Also:
That made me laugh for some reason. I could see you beating your keyboard ala "search before posting!!!" style. ;D

Should I assume the Europower amps like seeing 2 ohm loads all the time? I have been told that 2 Ohm loads are not appropriate to most pro power amps. Not even if the manufacturers claim they can be used with 2 Ohms. I quote an engineer with his own PA supply firm and a retailer who became tired of returning EP amps for repair that had been used on 2 Ohms. I'm using series pairs of 4 Ohm drivers for 8 Ohms per channel and cannot imagine wanting more power from my EP2500. Having such reserves means I can use a very quiet fan without the slightest hint of overheating.

People need to remember there's a huge difference between how we're using these amps, and how any amp is used in the real world of pro-audio. Home sub use puts significantly less stress on the amps, as a result many people are successfully using these for 2 ohm loads. I continue to think it's not the best idea and should be done only as a last resort.

Has anyone spoken with Scott in the past week? I was exchanging emails with him about these drivers but haven't heard back from him since last Wed. Did he go on vacation?

I also want 4 of the Q18's for my project. The value looks to good to pass up. That makes two of us I believe for a total of 8 subs. How many do we need to order for a group buy/discount? I wouldn't mind organizing everything if we get more people. I can be reached at: brent@meshier.com

I guess you could say I was on vacation for a little bit. We were out of town for almost a week for a car audio related competition (we had a booth and vehicles there). We came back to several hundred emails and an email server problem. Everything has been cleared up and if you did not receive and email... please reforward it if you can. There should be 6 people now in CIB that have drivers for applications... hopefully they will post up some results soon Thanks... Scott

Just FYI, I am one of the six. I don't have mine in hand yet, but I should receive my four Q18s (specially modified by Scott for IB use) this week. Results will be posted in my build thread "ebr's IB" over in the project forum.

I just ordered 2 of them today. Scott has been very helpful. Here are the specs on the 'IB' version they are making. He is wiring my 2 up as a single 4 ohm voicecoil.

Guys, very premilinary results for me so far but I can say these are some SERIOUS drivers. I'm convinced I could tear my house down with these things . Very fine build quality too. I give them a

HI guys,
Has anyone with a two Q18 set-up given impressions? I've got room (and money) for only two Q18's. With no real room for expansion of two more drivers.
I'm FINALLY in a situation where I can order some drivers. I already have the DSP1124p, so I'll only need an amplifier after this.
I'm planning on a two Q18 line array system but would like to make sure this will be a wise choice...and one that I don't have to correct in the future.
Thanks, dan

Hi again... Cult forum member 'ebr' recently installed an IB in a relatively small room with 4-.Q18"s, and is almost blown out of the room by their output. So I think you'd be in good shape using a pair....

Well, I just recieved my two Q-18's. These things are freakin' HUGE! I suppose I'm used to dinky 15" woofers I haven't got an amp yet...and have got to do some work on my other "main" amps to get my system up and running. But I can't wait 'till I get some more money to get the amps! dan
