Good Morning Gentlemen, Long time lurker, recent member, first time poster. I plan on building a 4 X 18" IB this winter; I've been watching the industry as to driver development with Q18's and RLP-18's currently leading the pack. Kevin Haskins has recently released his target specs for the XJ-18 and I wanted to share this with you. Based upon his target specs, how do you feel this driver will perform in an IB install? www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=46027.0Regards, Larry

Modeling it in WinISD doesn't look that great IMHO. In a 500 ft^3 enclosure with one driver, WinISD is showing -3db at about 30Hz and 90 Hz. That high Le is contributing to a huge rolloff above about 50 Hz (which is the peak at about 0.5db). I guesstimated on the Xmax and Pe, but it doesn't matter for this graph. It will work fine in an IB.

The Le is definitely a misprint. I think he's showing the modeled Le without the effect of shorting rings. Obviously with the shorting rings shown, the Le will be low enough (probably 2.5 mH or so) to have flat enough response.
Parameters are essentially that of an Adire Tempest and should be good for IB use. Still, a little EQ is easy to do these days.

The 12" Shiva-X and 15" Tempest-X are now on Kevin's website. Both drivers have an Xmax of 27mm and a Qts of 0.42. The Shiva-X has a Fs of 20.4 Hz and costs $165. The Tempest-X an Fs of 18.5 Hz and costs $175. His forum at Audio Circle says the Shiva will be ready to ship next week. I assume the same is true for the Tempest-X as he said the shipment with both subwoofers is in customs right now. The Tempest-X looks like a hell of a deal for those in need of using 15" drivers.

I'm copying this post by Kevin from another forum "I put up some pricing on mulit-driver purchases. This discounts the drivers for IB installs when your ordering 2, 4 or even 8 drivers. The 2-Pack price for the Tempest-X $165 each Price per liter of displacement = $38.37 The 4-Pack price for the Tempest-X $155 each Price per liter of displacement = $36.05 The 8-Pack price for the Tempest-X $150 each Price per liter of displacement = $34.88 I don't have a 8-Pack simply because the UPS software that interfaces with my shopping cart doesn't have a way of recognizing that I'm shipping each as an individual box. The weight for 8 Tempest-X is over the 200lb limit. Just order two 4-Packs and I'll adjust the price to $150 per Tempest-X in 8 driver orders. www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24_93&products_id=658www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24_93&products_id=659The 2-Pack Price of the Shiva-X $155 each The 4-Pack Price of the Shiva-X $150 each The 8-Pack Price of the Shiva-X $145 each This type of pricing should firmly put the Shiva-X & Tempest-X ahead of competing offerings on a cost per displacement ratio. That also ignores the fact that we are using the XBL^2 motors which should translate to lower distortion, less Le, and overall better sound quality."

The pricing model on the Tempest is really making it difficult for me to hold out for the 18" units. Really great stuff here.

Hah... Thomas. I just saw that post on the other forum, copied it, came here to post it but you beat me to the punch! It's nice to have more cost effective alternatives on the market. Hopefully some people will buy a bunch and spread the good word of IBs even more.

I'm working with a guy to distribute them in Australia. It may be another month or two but it should save you from the shipping pain.

Regards' Thomas Yes... I'm shipping their inventory next week. Our distributor in Europe is Streaming Audio Sweden. www.streamingaudio.seTheir pricing is going to be a little higher than in North America simply because the shipping/import duties are significantly more expensive. They should still be a great value though and the cost is going to be much better than if I shipped direct into Europe. In addition you will have a closer support center with technical support provided by someone in your own time zone. :-)

Just curious, anything further on an Aussie distributor ship yet? Norpus, you have a pm too.
Merry Christmas all.
